Eleanor Roosevelt wrote her own autobiography. This book is very interesting because when you read it you can have an idea of what life was really like for Eleanor. She began writing her autobiography in 1937.

Childhood
Eleanor faced a lot of trauma in her childhood. Her mother passed away when she was only eight years old. Eleanor's father passed away when she was nine years old. Although these losses are tremendous for a child, Eleanor Roosevelt did not let her losses define her.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights states all of the basic rights granted to human beings. Eleanor Roosevelt was a driving force in this declaration. She was elected a chairman for The Universal Declaration of Human Rights and helped make key decisions for the document.

Eleanor Roosevelt served as first lady for the four terms her husband was in office. She was a very dedicated first lady and remained active even after her husbands death.

Harry Truman nicknamed Eleanor "The First Lady of the World. After Franklin Roosevelt's death, Truman announced he would continue the same policies of Franklin Roosevelt. Eleanor and Truman worked closely together after the passing of Eleanor's husband.

Eleanor Roosevelt is seen as an inspiration to many young women because she was a strong female leader and helped women gain equal rights.
John F. Kennedy
Eleanor Roosevelt chaired the John F. Kennedy administration's Presidentual Commission on the Satus of Women.

Eleanor Roosevelt married Fraklin D. Roosevelt in 1905 in New York City. A fact that most people do not know about the Roosevelt's is that they are actually fifth cousins! That may sound weird now, but back then it was not uncommon to marry distant relatives.

Eleanor Roosevelt was nominated three times, during her lifetime, for a Nobel Peace Prize. These nominations occurred between 1947-1955. Unfortunately,Eleanor was never the winner of the prize.
