- Your heart has multiple amazing factors that always it to function the way it does too keep you alive. Your heart is responsible for pumping blood throughout the body, supplying oxygen and nutrients to the tissues and removing carbon dioxide and other wastes.

There are 4 chambers that make up your heart. Two atria and two ventricles. The right atrium, the right ventricle, the left atrium, and the left ventricle.

Arteries carry oxygenated blood away from the heart to the body, and veins carry oxygen-poor blood back from the body to the heart.

Blood enters the right atrium and passes through the right ventricle. The right ventricle pumps the blood to the lungs where it becomes oxygenated. The oxygenated blood is brought back to the heart by the pulmonary veins which enter the left atrium. From the left atrium blood flows into the left ventricle.

Once blood travels through the pulmonic valve into the pulmonary arteries, it enters your lungs. ... Here, oxygen travels from the tiny air sacs in the lungs, through the walls of the capillaries, into the blood.

Blood moves to and from the tissues of the body by moving through the circulatory system by being pumped out by the heart. Blood leaving the heart through the arteries is full of oxygen.

Oxygen passes quickly through this air-blood barrier into the blood in the capillaries. Similarly, carbon dioxide passes from the blood into the alveoli and is then exhaled.

The aorta sends newly oxygenated blood from the left side of the heart to the rest of the body. The inferior vena cava and superior vena cava bring blood back to the heart to get new oxygen.
