Dedication: to my family who helped me make this book and because I love them.

Hello, and welcome to the factory, "What factory?" You ask, well, it’s right here. My name is Robert Nicholas Anderson (RNA) and I’ll be your tour guide on our trip through a typical cell in the human body.
First off, we start at the nucleolus, which is where ribosomes are made. What are ribosomes? Well, we'll come back to that in a bit. Next stop, the nucleus, which is the home of DNA and RNA. This is where we get the blueprints from the DNA and make it into stuff like proteins.
Okay, enough small talk. What are ribosomes? Well, they are the construction workers of this cell which synthesise the proteins. The proteins get delivered through the rough ER, or rough endoplasmic reticulum, to the Golgi body. Fun fact, the reason rough ER is rough is because it’s studded with ribosomes.
What's the stuff in pink next to the rough ER? That is smooth endoplasmic reticulum, which is a whole different factory. It makes lipids, like cholesterol and the surface of the cellular membrane. It also helps convert other forms of sugar to glucose, which is needed in cellular respiration.
