OUR OWN LEGEND

MAIDEN TOWER (ISTANBUL - TURKEY )
Apart from its history, the famous tower has also been the subject of a few legends. According to hearsay, a young man known as Leandros fell in love with a nun named Hero, who lived in the tower. Every night, Hero built a fire to guide her lover to the islet. However, one night, the fire was put out by a storm and Leandros lost his way and drowned in the Bosphorus. Hero was so overwhelmed by grief and loss, she committed suicide.
Another story goes that a soothsayer told the king his daughter would die of a snakebite. To protect her, the king constructed a castle out at sea where she could live safely; however, a snake hiding in a fruit basket made it onto the islet and the princess died after the reptile bit her.

The Trevi Fountain
Roma - Italy
A dramatic Baroque masterpiece, almost 20 metres wide and 26 metres high, the Trevi Fountain is the biggest fountain in Rome. However, it can also be the most difficult to find, hemmed in between the buildings on the small Piazza Trevi, which takes its name from the tre vie “three roads” that meet there.
If you’re heading to Trevi Fountain, remember to bring some change. Legend has it that if you throw a coin into the Trevi Fountain, you’re bound to return to Rome. You should take the coin in your right hand, face with your back to the fountain and throw it over your left shoulder. If you throw two coins, you’ll find love as well; three will ensure marriage (or divorce, if you’re already married). The tradition gained popularity after it was the theme of the 1954 romantic comedy “Three Coins in the Fountain”, but it started long before the movie. Originally, it was said that a thirst quenching glass of water from the Trevi Fountain would ensure good fortune and a fast return to the Eternal City. Over time the legend of the Trevi Fountain evolved to tossing a coin.

The most majestic and mysterious monument of Baku is Gyz Galasy - the Maiden Tower rising in the south-eastern part of the fortress of Ichari Shahar. This unique building of the Azerbaijani architecture does not have any analogues in the East. There are a number of legends connected with the etymology of the name of the Baku “Maiden Tower”. According to one of the legends once upon a time there lived a King. He had a daughter. His daughter fell in love with a poor boy. But their marriage was impossible as the King didn’t want to give her daughter to a poor boy and he didn’t allow her daughter to marry him. But he doesn't want to say anything to the king. Upon the king's insistence, “My king will put a snake in your daughter and your daughter will die unfortunately. Nobody can change this fate. Even you can't prevent it. “The king was very worried about this, but he didn't say anything to his daughter. He built a stone fortress on an island close to the beach opposite Korykos castle. He closes his daughter to this castle with a few servants. He cut you with everyone. It's pretty sad about it and it doesn't make sense. The king's only purpose is not to harm his daughter because he thinks the snake cannot pass through the water. One day when the girl asks for grapes, the news goes to the palace. The grape called Tarsus Beyaz is collected for the king's daughter and put in the basket. Grape basket is taken to the castle. However, the snake coming out of the basket stings the girl and dies there. This is the most known and most narrated city legend of Mersin. Therefore, it is thought that the castle was named after him.

The legend- The Queen of Baltic (Gdynia) Poland
THE LEGEND OF THE QUEEN OF THE BALTIC Long, long ago, the Baltic Sea was ruled by Jurata, a beautiful queen. She had long golden hair and sea green eyes. Her loveliness caused Perkun, the fierce God of thunder and lightning, to fall in love with her. He would not let his storms disturb the waters of her kingdom. Jurata was a kind queen. She established laws to protect her sea creatures. One law did not allow anyone to set traps that caught too many fish at one time. Though Jurata liked to eat flounder and had it served at the palace, she ordered her servants to keep only half of each fish and to throw the other half back to the sea. These fish-halves stayed alive because of her magical powers. On the Baltic Coast lived a bold, free spirited young fisherman who had very little common sense. He knew about Queen Jurata's law, but disobeyed it. He set many traps and caught many, many fish which he sold to people who lived far from the sea. He spent most of his money on fine clothes. The Queen found out about this fisherman and was very angry with him. Her plan was to swim close to the shore, get the fisherman to go in the water and drown him. Instead, when she saw him in his beautiful clothes, she fell in love with him as he did with her. Every night she would swim to the shore and see her new sweetheart. Jurata herself had broken a law. The gods said that magical beings could love only magical beings. Perkun got very very mad about this. He went into a rage and with thunderbolts destroyed the amber colored palace while the Queen was inside and chained the young fisherman to the bottom of the sea. They were never seen again. The fisherman can sometimes be heard calling for his love. The only things that remain from Jurata's palace are pieces of amber that sometimes wash up on the beaches of the Baltic Sea.

MIHAIL- CORNEL GOGU
The legend of Basilisk
A long time ago, in the cellar of a townhouse on Krzywe Koło Street lived a terrible creature called Basilisk. It was a huge animal, with wings like a bat and a crocodile’s tail. The body was covered with scales, and the paws had sharp claws. However, the worst thing was its stare – whoever he looked at turned to stone.
The Basilisk was also very troublesome for the people of Warsaw. During the day it slept, but at night it destroyed everything it encountered on its way, causing fires, destroyed walls and killing and eating animals.
From time to time there, some brave soul armed with a sword and shield tried to kill the monster, but it always ended tragically as he became another stone statue.
One day a wandering tailor arrived in the city. The boy was of a small stature, he did not have a weapon and he knew nothing about fighting, but he had a big heart and courage. When he heard what was happening in Warsaw, he decided to help. People were very surprised that such an ordinary boy was going to catch such a great beast. After all, the larger, seasoned knights hadn’t managed to do so had they? What could he do? However, the tailor had a plan. He found the largest mirror he could and set off.
In the cellar it was dark and messy. The boy had to be careful not to make unnecessary noise and wake the Basilisk up prematurely. As he walked down the corridors he saw that the creature had accumulated considerable wealth he understood how many people had tried to kill the beast. This view filled him with fear, but the boy went bravely forward.
He stood on the threshold of the chamber where the animal was sleeping, held out the mirror and kicked a metal milk churn standing nearby. The Basilisk, awakened by noise, jumped up, raised its head and turned to stone. It had seen its own reflection when it looked in the mirror.
The tailor, with emotion, dropped the mirror, which smashed into many pieces, each of them reflecting the sun’s rays through a small, ceiling window. The room became bright, and all the statues became living people again.
The tears of happiness and overwhelming joy were endless. All the people of Warsaw breathed a sigh of relief and wanted to thank their saviour, but the tailor had already set off further on his journey
Legend of Bridal Rock(Gelin Kayası)
Derya Güvercin
Behind Nohutlu Hill in Yozgat, there are rocks that look like a camel-riding bride near Jeharlik. These rocks are called "Bridal Rock". According to legend, the bride procession comes from one of the villages. Bandits turn the bride procession. Their intention is to buy the bride from the caravan and sell it in the captive market. The men of the bride regiment hit the bandits and lost their lives. The bandits are about to catch the bride and the groom. The bride and groom, who realize that they will be caught, pray to Allah. The prayers of "God, don't let us fall into the hands of these bandits, either stone us or bird us" are accepted. With the beautiful bride, bandits, camels and horses become stones on the spot. The groom is a bird and flies into the sky. The tears poured from the eyes of the beautiful bride crying become floods and the red tulips begin to end there. In time, these tulips cover the whole hill. In Egrice (in the second week of May), the tulips of redness turn red and white pigeons glide in the sky. Yozgat hunters certainly do not shoot the pigeons here.

GÖBEKLİ TEPE:
Located in the Germuş mountains of south-eastern Anatolia, this property presents monumental round-oval and rectangular megalithic structures erected by hunter-gatherers in the Pre-Pottery Neolithic age between 9,600 and 8,200 BCE. These monuments were probably used in connection with rituals, most likely of a funerary nature. Distinctive T-shaped pillars are carved with images of wild animals, providing insight into the way of life and beliefs of people living in Upper Mesopotamia about 11,500 years ago.

Leto, a childhood friend and wife of Zeus, has two children, Apollon and Artemis. Niobe, who is proud of her children at every opportunity, says that she has many children, and that Leto has only two children, which makes the goddess Leto angry and asks her children to punish Niobe. All the children of Niobe are killed by the arrows of Apollo and Artemis. Niobe cries for days at the head of his children’s bodies. Eventually, the god Zeus pityed Niobe and turned him into a stone at the foot of Mount Spil to end his suffering.Until recently, water drops that leaked from the eyebrow-shaped recesses of this rock in the head of Çaybaşı Mevkii in Karaköy were interpreted as tears of Niobe and were called Weeping Rock by the people. This rock, which looks like a female head, is one of the most visited places.
