Thank you for a great semester!

and 10 year old Lauren hopped on the bus to spend her first summer at sleepaway camp with her sister in the Pocono mountains.
It was summer 2013,

Camp was new and exciting. Lauren had no idea what to expect. Would she make friends? What activities would she do?

Along with games, stationary and stickers, each girl in Lauren's bunk also brought their school summer reading book to be read in between days of swimming in the lake.

Summer reading felt like a chore to Lauren and her bunk. All the girls complained. Nobody wanted to waste their summer time doing schoolwork.

.

One day, Lauren's sister Sarah asked her if they could switch summer reading books. Little did she know this would change the bunk's opinion on reading.
The next summer
All thirteen girls from Lauren's bunk came back to camp. This time, they had two books with them.

During the summer, the book trading continued. Soon, the "Book Schedule by the Girls of Bunk 12" was made.
Book Schedule By the Girls of G12
- 1. First person to ask to read the book gets it next.
- 2. To read after, ask the person who has the book before you not the book owner.
- 3. If you are first for one book you can't be first or second for the next two books.
- 4. NO SPOILERS!!!!!
The bunk put so much time and effort into reading by making this schedule. Lauren thought: reading may actually be more important than just for school homework.
Flash forward
to summer 2015. Lauren was third to read her friend Josie's summer reading book, Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick.

Lauren finished Black Ice in record time. Never had she felt such strong emotions from a book before! Lauren's camp friends could not stop talking about Black Ice.

This was first time Lauren felt an impact from reading without the need to search for one, and the first time Lauren felt changed by a story.

Lauren never knew that reading could actually be fun! She loved the feeling she got from the exciting parts of a book, sitting at the edge of her bunk bed.
