Once upon a time, there were three travelers named Ethos, Pathos, and Logos.
These men were very good at accomplishing their missions, because they could argue their way out of all trouble that came their way!
Ethos was particularly good at arguing, because he was a very smart traveler. He had accomplished many tasks, and obtained many roles throughout his life, earning him great titles!
One day as Ethos, Pathos, and Logos were traveling through the woods, they came across a long wooden bridge. As they began to cross, they were stopped by a very old, very grumpy guard.
"Halt! No one may cross this bridge. There are beasts far too wild inside. No travelers may enter today!" said the guard.
"Oh please! I have battled many giants, fought many beasts, and have even defeated a dragon! I am far too experienced to turn my back on such a challenge. Because of my expertise, I am surely qualified to cross this bridge with my partners." Ethos challenged the guard.
This argument from Ethos seemed to convince the guard to let them cross. With a big harumph, the guard moved out of the traveler's way and allowed them on the bridge. "Beware", the guard said, "there are many challenges that lie ahead!" The guard went back to his post, and the travelers went on their way.
After three long days of traveling in the woods, the men decided to rest for the day. They found a nice soft patch of grass along a large row of trees, and began to fall asleep. The men dreamed wonderful dreams of castles, princesses, and riches awaiting them at the end of their long journey.
After a few hours of rest, the men were suddenly awoken to a hard bonk on their head! They jolt up in surprise, and find an angry army of squirrels perched in the tree above them!
The squirrels were clearly unhappy with the travelers. "Why, yes! You are sitting under our tree! We haven't been able to find any nuts within the past week, and we're sure you men must have something to do with it!"
"Excuse me," Logos said, "did you just throw a stick at us?"
Logos was confused by their assumption. “I beg your pardon, but we just arrived at this tree for the first time last night! How could it have possibly been us?
The squirrels did not believe him. "Why else would we not be able to find any more nuts? Surely you and your men stole them from us!"
"If I may reason with you," Logos countered, "I have significant proof that we have not stolen your supply. To start, here is my time log. It shows where we have been, and when. During this time last week, we were in the middle of rounding the great isles. There is no way we could have stolen your food!"
The squirrels were clearly confused by this. "If you haven't been stealing our food, who has?"
Logos replied with a chuckle, "look around! These trees are clearly barren! It would be helpful for you and your scurry to head East. According to my studies, the trees are ripe with acorns during this time of year!"
