This story is about 7 demigods, a half-man half-goat (satyr) named Coach Hedge, and a boat that Leo made called the Argo II. Their goal is to defeat the giants in Rome and save kidnapped Nico. Nico is Hazel's brother. Also, Annabeth has to follow the Mark of Athena and retrieve the ancient statue that was taken, the Athena Parthenos. Also to spice it up, they have only a few days or Nico will die and the giants will destroy Rome.

This book starts out where seven demigods arrive at the Roman Camp on the Argo II. The Argo II is a Greek ship that Leo made. It is a flying warship with magical weapons.

Leo and Caoch Hedge stay aboard the Argo as Hazel Levesque, Frang Zhang, Jason Grace, Piper McLean, Percy Jackson, and Annabeth Chase meet the Roman camp leader, Rayna.

Leo got taken over by an Eidolin and attacked the Roman city. The Romans got mad and started chasing them to an island. The demigods only have a few days to save Hazel's brother Nico from the giants and to save the Athena Parthenos.

Hazel and Leo go to an island to get resources for the ship. They find the goddess Nemesis. Nemesis gives Hazel a clue to find her kidnapped half-brother Nico, and she gives Leo a fortune cookie. Leo is wondering what is in it. He asked Nemesis and there was a fortune in there. A fortune to use when he desperately needed help. A fortune that had a price.

Piper was sitting in her bed when she looked in her magical knife. Her knife showed a vision of Romans planning to chase them. Leo and Hazel got back from the island with the metals they went for, and Percy and Annabeth were back from the tar store. Later, Piper looked at her blade again. She saw an old country road with a sign that said Topeka 32 with a man standing next to it. He had a grape vine hanging from his neck.

Piper, Jason, and Percy go to this mile marker in Kansas and find the Roman god Bacchus. He is waiting for another goddess to get there but she never comes. Bacchus says that this must be a trap and she would know if it is a trap. Bacchus leaves. Then the wind gets a chill and an Eidonlin takes over Percy and Jason. They fight eachother but Piper gets the Eidolins to stop.

When Piper and unconscious Jason and Percy get back from Topeka 32, she takes Bachus' word. She tells Leo to set sail for Atlanta. She tells the crew about their meeting with Bachus, and the fight. At dinner that night, Piper uses her charmspeak, "Eidolons, if you are in here raise your hand." Since Aphrodite was her mom, she could persuade people really easy. They thought it was crazy at first but then Percy, Leo, and Jason raised their hands. Piper used charmspeak to make the eidolins never possess someone again. It worked and they left!

Turn into a fishy!!

Frank, Percy and Coach Hedge go into this aquarium in Atlanta. Bacchus told them they would meet somebody. Phorcys, the person they meet at the aquarium tricks Percy and Frank into a room and fills it with water. Good thing Percy is a son of Posiedon, so he can breath under water. Frank on the other hand, can't.

"Could you like turn into a fish or something?" Percy asked.

"Blub-afhcdsjkbal-blub!" said Frank under the water. Frank can't talk under water like Percy. He nodded his head in agreement and turned into a fish. That is Frank's power. They get out when Hedge kicks the door open. They escape!

I am you.

Who are you?

Hazel, Piper, and Annabeth go to the park. They find Piper's mom. Aphrodite. Aphrodite is the goddess of love and beauty.

Annabeth asks not knowing who she is, "Who are you?" "I am you," Aphrodite responds. "I am all of the love and beauty inside of you.

"Mother stop!" Piper yells while gritting her teeth.

Hazel and Annabeth say in unison, "Oh. You are Aphrodite." She talks to Annabeth about the Athena Parthenos. She will have to follow the Mark of Athena to get there.

"It is like a spiritual trail of bread crumbs! That's how you find it," Aphrodite exclaims. After that, they head back to the ship.

It wasn't us!!

The demigods go back to the ship where they find the Romans. Annabeth sees an owl burning in the sky. It is exactly the same as the owl on the coin that Annabeth's mom, Athena gave to her. She has told her to follow the Mark of Athena. Avenge me. When she goes close to it, she sees her worst fear. Spiders. She doesn't like spiders because her mom turned Arachne into a giant spider. Arachne and all spiders hate Athena and her daughters. The blaze in the are burns like the sun so bright, it keeps the spider a few feet away.

"Aaaaahhhh," Annabeth screams. "1000's of spiders!!!"
