Hi my name is Jennifer
The story of my life as
a reader started a long time
ago near the ocean.

When I was a little girl I had very bad asthma and couldn't enjoy
the outdoors as much as other kids so I read a lot of books.
I liked school, there were many books there. My teacher said
"Hey you like to read, do you have a favorite author? I said
"Yes Beverly Cleary, I also I like cats and knock knock jokes!"

I can remember every library and bookstore I have ever
been to. Growing up I wanted to have one library room in my house
with floor to ceiling bookshelves and have one of those book rack
ladders with wheels on the bottom.
I like the way books smell. If the scent of books was an air
freshener I would buy it and use it everyday!

One day when I was a teenager my family moved
to a city in the desert. It was very very different and
had all kinds of new places I had never
been to before with new books. Plus it was
extremely HOT there like 500 degrees
everyday! So I stayed inside reading all the Star
Trek novels I could carry home from the library.

No matter what I am reading about, books take me to many different places.
I can imagine I am someone else for awhile. I can see things, go places and do things
in a story that I can't in real life. Through books I can learn about things interesting
people, places, and learn about things I didn't know before..

Now I live in the Black Hills of South Dakota and I have a family of my own.
Reading has changed alot since I was a kid. We still read paper books but now we can read
books on-line and on awesome devices called Kindles and I pads!!

growing up and becoming a mom opened me up to so many authors, illustrators
I had never experienced before AND I got to read my favorite stories to my kids!
Today I am studying to be an elementary school teacher and have taken a great class
about Children's Literature. The class has introduced me to even more books from
various genres and the differences between them all and how to really make
good use of books in the classroom!!

This is the story of my life as a reader. I have come a long way and I still
have a long way to go so this story is not over yet. But no matter where the
journey of my life as a reader takes me I am excited to go, I look forward to
sharing my experiences with others AND I will have fun doing it.
