Tomorrow is Emma's first day of 2nd grade. "I am so excited for school!" she said to her mother.

She packed her backpack before leaving to go to her grandmother's house.

"Hi Grandma, I'm super excited for school tomorrow!" said Emma. "What
grade are you in? 3rd grade?" asked grandma Susie. "No," said Emma, "I will be starting 2nd grade."

Emma loves baking treats! Every summer before school starts, Emma and her grandmother Susie bake cupcakes. "Grandma, what do we need to
bake cupcakes?" asked Emma. "I can't remember my recipe," said grandma Susie. "Why don't you check my recipe book". Emma found it strange that her grandma forgot her recipe, but she got the recipe book anyway.

Recipe for Cupcakes

1 spoon of sugar
1 cup of milk
1 spoon of vanilla
1 spoon of baking powder
Emma looked in the recipe book on how to bake cupcakes.

After they gathered the ingredients, Emma and her grandmother made delicious cupcakes! The entire house smelled like yummy cupcakes!

The next day, Emma went to school. Ms. Brown is her new teacher. Emma likes Ms. Brown as her teacher. "I would like everyone to tell the class one thing you did this summer!" said Ms. Brown.

Emma went to the front of her class and told everyone about a picnic she went on with her grandmother over the summer. "On the picnic, my grandma Susie gave me a special bracelet! I love my grandma so much," said Emma.

Emma showed her class the special bracelet her grandmother gave her. It is very important to her. Her bracelet has writing on it that says: "I will always love you".

On the weekend, Emma and her mother went to her grandmother's house. "Hi grandma!" said Emma. "Hello Emma, how was your week at school?" asked grandma Susie. "It was great! I told my class about the special picnic we had this summer and I showed them the bracelet you gave me."

Her grandmother was
confused. She asked, "What
picnic? What bracelet?"
