Hinduism






Looks like our journey to world religions has taken us to Hiduisim the oldest religion in the world.Did you know Hinduism started between 2300 B.C and 1500 B.C
Hindus believe in a supreme being called Brahman .This scared being is recognized as the universe itself .The three main Hindu gods Brahman,Vishnu, and Shiva. Shiva is the destroyer and Vishnuis the preserver.




Vishnu is the preserver he keeps the universe from being destroyed.Vishnu skin is blue to represent his infinite power
Shiva The term destruction as it relates to Shiva’s cosmic duties can be deceiving. Often Lord Shiva destroys negative presences such as evil, ignorance, and death.
Holy scriptures that Hindus refer to is the Sanskrit and the Vedas.This scriptures is important because it is believed from the Hindus that it was revealed directly from god.

The most important Hindu festival is Diwali festival of lights.The importance behind this festival is the triumph of good over evil


During Dwali many Hindus decorate their homes with candles,colorful lanterns, fairy lights and more
Did you know that more that 8 million people celebrate Diwali


Hindus usually perform worship in temples or at home .This is to achieve in living a pure life in order to reincarnate into a higher being.When Hindus are in the temple they make offerings to the murti like sweets.A building that Hindus gather to worship is a Mandir which is dedicated to different gods

SIKHISM
Our third religion that we are exploring is Sikhism. Sikhism is a monotheistic religion meaning they believe in one all powerful God opposed to other religions that believe in more than one.This religion originated in punjab in the 15th century. This religion is the youngest in the world

Sikhism as well as other religions meditate and have a holy scared book.Guru Granth Sahib is a collection of teachings and writings by Guru Nanak and other Gurus. A Scared person in Sikhism Guru Nanak , the first Sikh Guru and the founder of Sikhism, was a Bhakti saint. He taught, states Jon Mayled, that the most important form of worship is Bhakti. Guru Arjan, in his Sukhmani Sahib, recommended the true religion is one of loving devotion to Godthat are in Sikhism
The principal Sikh scripture is the Adi Granth (First Scripture), which another term is called the Guru Granth Sahib. The Sikhs do not regard this as their "holy book The Guru Granth Sahib was made by a combination of Gurus. Since sihks believe the word of God is contained in the Guru Granth Sahib therefore it is treated as a human holy figure and with respect. In the gurdwara, the Guru Granth Sahib is placed on a raised throne and Sikhs sit below it


Sikhs worship at home and in the Sikh temple called the Gurdwara ('Gateway to the Guru.In the temple everyone is welcomed no matter race,caste,ethnicity.Food is served in vegetarian meals to the community .


A major festival that is celebrated in Sikhism is Baisakhi which is the founding the Khalsa
This celebrates Sikh New Year and the founding of the Sikh community in 1699, It is celebrated on 13 or 14of April and began as a harvest festival in the Punjab before it became the Sikhs' most important festival.

Sihks celebrate this event by bathing in a holy river and attending gurdwara where prayers,hymns take place. The customs and traditions of Baisaki is dressing up,food, and dances.
Food services are provided by the Baisakhi fairs to keep guest energized cuisine like Chhole Bature, Achari mutton, Chicken saagwala, and more.
Dances.The traditional dances of Bhangra and Gidda are performed during Baisakhi to the beat of the drums in open fields :

During this occasion families bring out their most vibrant attire to wear to express their happiness of this new year.
ISLAM
Islam is a abrahamic monotheistic religion and it is the second largest religion in the world.The founder of this religion is Muhammad.Islam teaches that God is merciful, all-powerful, and unique, and has guided mankind through prophets, revealed scriptures and natural signs.

Islam teaches his followers that their is only one powerful God and no others. Also Muslims believe in one God who created the universe and has power over everything within it. He is the only one deserving of any worship and that all should submit to . Also that God is everywhere and sees all.

The Quran is the sacred scripture of Islam, and is believed by Muslims to be God's final revelation to humankind. The Quran was revealed in Arabic to Muhammad by the Angel Gabriel over a period of 22 years, beginning in 610 CE and ending in 632 CE.

A Mosque is a place of worship for followers of Islam . Inside a mosque there is no pictures of prophets or God because it is to prevent idolizing. Although the mosque is for praying and to celebrate festivals it can be used for community centers

WHAT IS RAMADAN
Ramadan is the most sacred month of the year in Islamic culture. During this time Muslims fast and abstain from pleasure. This month of Ramadan is to when the first chapters the QUran was given to prophet Muhammad in 610.
Ramadan is celebrated by Muslims around the world During this month praying during the night time and abstaining from eating, drinking, and sexual acts daily between sunrise and sunset. Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar and it is believed that the Koran's first verse was revealed during its last 10 nights

A scared person in Islam is Muhammad. Muhammad is often refer to Prophet Muhammad, or just "The Prophet" or "The Messenger", and regard him as the greatest of all Prophets. He was the Chosen one and saved Mecca from poverty, slavery, racism, gambling and many more bad things

Buddhism
Siddhartha Gautama
is the founder of Buddhism
Buddhism beliefs in god are none. In this religion the belief is that nothing is fixed or permanent and that change is always possible. The path to Enlightenment is through the practice and development of morality, meditation and wisdom


Did you know that Buddhism dose not follow the set centralized belief systems of religion. although it is considered to be a religion it does not have religious aspects
