Chapter 1. The School Day Before Vaca
Friday, 3:20 P.M: “Ok, class. We have one more thing to do.” Mr. Rodriguez said as he looked at Zen weirdley. “Zen, what are you doing? Do you need to share the class what you’re doing?” He asked. Zen was writing on a piece of paper. He wrote:
Hey, Zoey. before we get home, don’t forget to sign my test, I got a D minus, and mom won’t like it.. Please sign it, forge mom’s signature. Your better at it.! You can do the little loopty loop things! Please sis, I’ll do anything,
“Oh, I’m not doing any-” Mr. Rodriguez cut him off, as Zen was shoving his piece of paper into his pants pocket, and biting his lip, with his front teeth. “Let’s see that paper of yours, uh?” Mr.
Rodriguez held his hand out, waiting for the note to come out of his pants. He got it out, and he shared the class what it said. his cheeks got red. “So embarrassing.” He mumbled. “Dang It.” He mumbled again, as Zoey Looked at him, “sorry, bud.” She whispered. “I can’t do it.”
“What? why?”
“Mr. Cooper. Zen, you know what this means, DETENTION!” Mr. Rodriguez shouted, annoyingly. “Now, where were we..”
At detention, Zen was so bored, and as in bored, it means him sitting making paper airplanes. “Oh, phew. Almost hit Ms. SleepyHead there.” His paper airplane almost hit the sleeping teacher, in her chair.
“Zen.. Pst Zen, can you hear me?” Zoey creeped in the room on her tiptoes. “Well, of course I can hear you. What are you doing in here, and be quiet, look.” Zen pointed his pointer finger, to Mrs. Cole, the “sleepy head”. “See? Be quiet!” He whispered, really loud. “Get over here!” Zoey said, as she put her hand toward her, waving him to come over. “Ok, fine.”
“Zoey, I have 2 more hours until detention is over. What do you need?” Zen asked, as he put his hand on his hip “hurry.”
“We need to go home, Zen. School is over, and we have to get packed up for tomorrow, you know, California.” Zoey grabbed his arm. “Come on! We need to go!” Zen was aware of the fact that he had more detention time. “Fine, i’ll go.” He stuck his tongue out at her. “But, wait.” Zen started. “You have to sign my test.”
“I thought you were joking. Zen, we’ve been over this. I know you say you are a ‘Bad Kid’ but, I’m not doing it for you. I’m not the bad kid here.” Zoey felt bad for not doing it. But, she had the right to say no.
“Fine, I’ll lie, or not tell her about it.”
“Those are the worst ways, but ok” Zoey sighed. “Let’s go home.” then, they creeped out of the room. “Run” Zen started, “She’ll see you.”
“Ok.” They ran to their mom’s car. “Let’s go mom.” zoey said, as she buckled her seatbelt,
and so did Zen.
At night, Zen has trouble sleeping. He keeps having this same dream. He’s in a dark world, with his sister, Zoey. they sit, and get scared. That's it.
Chapter 2. Lies, and rebellious sides.
Saturday 2 A.M: The light was shining so bright from the bathroom, Zoey and Zen couldn’t sleep. Zoey, from the top bunk lifted her head up. BANG “OW!”
“Gee, Zoe, stop it.” Zen disgustedly said, as he lifted his head up, and bonked it on the top bunk. “Wow. OW”
“ yeah I know, and I can’t help that I hurt myself..” Zoey said, as she held her hand on her head, rubbing it.
“C’mon, we gotta get ready, For Cali!” Zoey said, trying to yell, but she is so tired, she cant even do it. Her voice scratched, like a lion scratching a human. “Oh, ow.”
“Ok” Zen started, as he clenched onto his nightstand that was in the way of everything.
“Man, I’m tired” He wiped his eyes, and yawned.
At the airport, Shelia (Zen and Zoey’s mom) asked, “did you bring your airpods?” She asked, as she got her suitcase, and put it on the scanner, to scan what was in it. "yes" Zen said, as he thought something right as he said, yes. Hopefully they don’t find my new video game in this suitcase. Zen thought. Mom told me not to bring it. She’ll probob- “Beep! Beep! Beep!” The noisy machine made, as on the screen it showed what it had in the suitcase. Zen’s cheeks got so red, he couldn’t even smile. “Zen? What’s in your suitcase?” Their mom asked, in a really demanding, and mad voice.
“Oh, that’s nothing, I had no idea that was really anything.” He chuckled. “I have no idea. Really, mom beli-” He got cut off, and his mom already knew he was lying.
“Come here.” She pulled Zen’s arm toward her, into a corner. “What do you think your doing? You have been very weird lately. You are hiding something, Zen. What’s going on?”
Zen took a deep breath, and finally started to speak. “I’ve been having weird dreams. Well, one actually, it is about me and Zoey in a random dark world. I-I-I I just can’t get it out of my head. Sorry mom.” Zen felt bad, for not telling her. But, he is still glad she didn't ask anything about his test. “Just don’t lie, cheat, be mean, and do bad pranks. Got it?”
“Mmhm.” Zen nodded, and sighed.
To Zen, lying was fun, and he loved to do pranks, but.. He just doesn’t understand why people don’t do that stuff. Or, why people don’t like it. He really likes to be considered a “Bad Guy” Because, he does that stuff, and is known for it. Is it his dreams, are the things that are making him do this? Or is he the, “Bad Guy” making the dream. Maybe Zoey is having the weird, black dream.
When they got onto the plane, Zen started to pack his things on top of the suitcase area. “Oof” He said, trying to get it up there. “So stubborn.” He said, as he walked to his seat.. “Oh hey! Hey Zen! So exciting to see you! So, why are you on this fli-?” Zoey, was jumping in.
“Jessica, don’t mess with my brother! Don’t make it a horrible habit, that you have to have, that every time you see my precious brother, you either break his heart again, or try to get back up again. Got it?” Zoey felt so much anger, burning inside her bones. The flames, and rebellious side of her started to come out like never before.
“Hey, shh! She broke up with me, but she would never try again. Ok, ZOEY? You ruined this flight.” Zen then sat down, and made a frown. His cheeks get red, as he flirted with Jessica, and looked at her. He then felt so much anger, like Zoey. He felt like punching something. “But, remember what mom said. Don’t lie, or cheat. Or be mean.” Zen umbled, as he put himself back down.
“I JUST DON’T WANT YOU TO GET A BROKEN HEART AGAIN! And, you should NEVER EVER flir-”
“Be quiet! It’s so quiet because of you, yelling. Everyone can hear you, and it’s not ok.” Their mom sat Zoey down by her. “Sitting by me the whole entire flight, to California. Got it?”
