Dedicated to my favorite cousins/ childhood best friends. Andres and Alejandra Azel.

I encountered La Llorona when I was five years old. I grew up in a Cuban household in Miami Florida, which is why I was told about her.

My older sister Shayla and I were playing dominoes with my Abuela, and I was throwing a tantrum because I wanted to watch Dora instead.

To cease my crying, my Abuela told me "I have a good story to tell you but i think you are little, poco chiquita"

This Immediately got my attention, so I begged and pleaded her to please tell me this story because I was a big girl!

My Abuela then went on this tirade, about some La Llorona girl. That's when she said something that made me become so focused that i was glued on her words from then on.

When she said that La Llorona drowned her own kids, and kidnaps misbehaving kids, I got so scared. I was freaked out because I know that I misbehave (more than I should have).
Then, as a little kid I was, I forgot about her for a little bit because five year old kids don't have very long attention spans.
Later that night, while I was playing Kirby on my 3DS, and eating leftover Churros my Abuela had made, was when I heard the most terrifying noise my little self has ever heard.

The noise I heard sounded like a woman crying, and it was extremely chilling. I had instant goosebumps all over

It did not sound like someone I knew. I checked my room i shared with my sister Shayla, I checked my older sister Cassies room and I checked everywhere until I reached my parent's bedroom.
when I was about to enter my parents room, it clicked. I knew it was who my Abuela was talking about.
