Thomas is a six year old African American boy who goes to an all black school. Thomas and his friends are not allowed to go to school with white kids.

In the case, Brown v. Board Brown claimed that segregated schools was unequal and not giving every child an equal opportunity.

"In his lawsuit, Brown claimed that schools for black children were not equal to the white schools, and that segregation violated the so-called “equal protection clause” of the 14th Amendment, which holds that no state can “deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”

Thomas starts his new school and is teased and bullied because of the color of his skin

"In the early 1950s, NAACP lawyers brought class action lawsuits on behalf of black schoolchildren and their families in Kansas, South Carolina, Virginia, and Delaware, seeking court orders to compel school districts to let black students attend with whites."

Everybody is mean to Tom except one little girl named Sarah. She is very nice to Tom and asks him to play with her on the playground.

Sarah and Tom started to spend a lot of time together and became best friends. They did every project together played with each other everyday at the playground.

William and Nacy began to tease Sarah for being Thomas' friend .
