Jesse Owens was a 22-years-old black America athlete. He was the grandson of an African slave and became one of the USA's greatest athletes in 1935,he broke three world records in an hour at University of Michigan.
Jesse Owens was born on September 12,1913 in Oakville.At the age of nine he moved with his family to Cleveland in Ohio.
On May 25,1935, within 45 minutes, at the Big Ten Meet in Ann Arbor, Michigan, he set the world record of long jump with the measure of 8.13 meters.Owens won four gold medals at the Olympics of Berlin:on August 3 he won the 100 meters, on August 4 the long jump , on August 5 the 200 meters and on August 9 the 4x100.Owens died on March 31 in Tcson for a lung cancer at the age of 66.
After Berlin,Owens started working as a professional in handicap competitions. Owens gave local sprinters ten or twenty yards ahead,winning equally on the distance of 100 yards. He also challenged and defeated racehorses, but with a trick that consisted of running against real thoroughbreds who got scared with the starter's gunshot, giving him a good advantage. Then he moved on to teaching.
After the war he began a new job as an athletic trainer for the famous Harlem Globetrotters basketball team, also playing on the parquet and giving demonstrations of the shot from the blocks and the technique of passing obstacles.
