Jesse Owens was a 22-year-old black American athlete.
In 1936 the Olympic games were in Berlin. Adolf Hitler wanted to show his country and his political ideas.
Hitler's political party believed that white people were better than other races but Owens demonstrated an spectacular way that it was not true.
At the 1936 Berlin Olympics, he won four gold medals.
Jesse Owens has become a sporting legend.
A street near the Olympics stadium in Berlin now has
his name and every year the USA's best athlete
his given the 'Jesse Owens award'.
He died the 31 March 1980.
Billie Jean King was born on the 22th november 1943. She was an American tennis player.
Together the most important tennis tournaments are called the 'Grand Slam'.
In her career she won 39 Grand Slam tournaments, including 6 Wimbledon.
King did a lot to help women in sport. In the 1970s' she campaigned women to have the same opportunities as a man.
She started the women's tennis association.
Then in 2006 the national centre was renamed the Billie Jean King National centre.
King changed many people's ideas about
women in sport.
