CAPTAIN WALTER CROWE
ASTRONAUT
Romeo was very excited that his Dad was going to be talking about his job to Mrs. Lindberg's Grade 5 class. You see, Romeo's Dad was an astronaut and he had just come back from a mission in outer space. There were some interesting presentations by the other parents while some were rather dull, but Romeo's Dad was gonna knock it out of the park. He was a member of The Phoenix Vanguard, an elite group of astronauts sent into space whenever there is a potential crisis.

"Good morning boys and girls, my name is Captain Walter Crowe and I am an astronaut. In fact, I just got back from outer space a couple of weeks ago. You're not going to believe the wild adventure I had up there. I was originally sent into space to fix a satellite that had been damaged by a meteor shower. But when I got there I realized that perhaps the damage had been caused by something else. Possibly something extraterrestrial." "Ooooooooooo" the class responded as they leaned forward in their chairs.

"I was sent into space to fix a satellite that NASA was no longer getting a signal from. The particular satellite I was going to be working on was a space-based solar power satellite. It was designed to collect energy from sunlight and transmit it for use on Earth. When I got closer to the satellite I noticed that it had been damaged. There were scratches and a few dents which I suspected must've due to some space debris.

"I decided to head back to the shuttle to find more tools to fix the satellite when I heard a loud explosion. The shuttle shook so hard from the impact that it knocked me against the wall. I regained my composure and crawled over to a window to see what happened. And what I saw shocked me to my very core. There is so much we don't know or will ever know about outer space. Despite how much I studied, I would never truly know all the mysteries of the universe. Sorry, I'm rambling." "What did you see Mr. Crowe?" a student asked.

"OUTER SPACE SAMURAIS!!!"

"Outer space samurais?" another student asked in amazement.""I know it sounds crazy but it's true. I couldn't believe my eyes. Massive aliens with big swords, helmets, and a gigantic eye in the middle of their face had me surrounded. It must've been this group of warriors that destroyed the satellite. And now it looked as if they were looking to demolish the shuttle as well. I had lost all contact back with my team back on Earth as everything went silent. Soon the shuttle began violently shaking." The class gasped.

The outer space samurais' sharp blades easily pierced the shell of the shuttle like a knife through butter . One wrong move on my part and I'd end up as a shish kabob. This was an absolute nightmare. I was trapped in my shuttle, surrounded by dangerous alien samurais, and no way to escape. I would've cried out for help but nobody can hear your screams in outer space." "Oh no! What did you do?" a nervous young girl yelled out.

"I was either going to be captured or worse by the rampaging band of samurais. Their sharp pointy swords were beginning to tear a hole in the shuttle. I cowered in the corner as I prepared for the end. And then it all stopped. The swords fell to the ground. Well, not quite. They floated in the air since there's no gravity in outer space. I don't know what happened nor did I want to find out. I furiously tried to unlock the hatch to the space pod when I felt the presence of another being on board the shuttle."

"IT WAS A MONKEY SPACE NINJA!"

"OH, COME ON!" ROMEO SHOUTED OUT LOUD.

"It's true. Before the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, they had sent a monkey off to outer space. With all of the chaos going on in their country and worldwide, the Soviets completely forgot about the space monkey. His name was Kolomnikov Arkadiy Olegovich but he insisted I call him 'Coco' for short." "Oh, come on!" Mrs. Lindberg cried out. "My apologies Mr. Crowe. Please continue with your story" she said trying her best not to laugh.

"Any more outbursts from the class? No? Good, then I'll continue" a frustrated Captain Crowe interjected." "Coco was a brilliant simian. On Earth he had taught himself how to play chess, read Shakespeare, and speak several languages." "Bwaaaaaaahhhh!" Mrs. Lindberg burst out snorting and laughing. "I'm so sorry. I have to go get something in the staff room." Mrs. Lindberg could be heard howling with laughter as she walked down the hallway. Romeo was beyond mortified by his Dad's fantastical tale.
