Introduction
Lightning flashed and thunder roared as the two dragons fought. Pale-blue and rust colored scales clashed. Flashes of fire flew threw the air, and so did freezing death breath. The Icewing started to inhale, getting ready to attack, but he was too late. The Skywing had leaped forward and grabbed the Icewing's neck, choking him. But before the Icewing died, he snapped the Skywing's neck, killing him instantly. The Icewing still died, though. Pools of blood dripped down from the bodies, staining the snow. A dragon watched from above, gray eyes narrowed. Then, he turned around, flying toward the Icewing palace. Later in the day, a rust colored dragon flew over the glacier were the fight had been. It roared in rage and dismay when it saw its fallen comrade. The dragon flew back to the Skywing kingdom, frantic to tell the queen. When the news got to Queen Rage, the queen
was outraged. She narrowed her eyes. "This is war, the Icewings have killed King Heatwave!" She bellowed. The Queen summoned her troops. The same thing happened at the Icewing palace, for King Heatwave had killed King Ice, the two most respected kings in Pyrrhia. The dragon troops assembled and went to war. Thousands died, and the other dragon tribes began to worry, but Queen Rage and Queen Frost didn't care. They were too focused on avenging their beloved kings.
Ember the nightwing-skywing hybrid sat in her room, reading a scroll about the great sandwing war. It was a huge war were three sandwing princesses' mother died, leaving three daughters that could be queen. All of the princesses wanted the crown so a war begun. It was an very interesting subject. Ember looked at the scroll one last time and got up to get a different scroll when she heard a roar. "EMBER! GET OVER HERE! BATTLE TRANING!!!" Ember sighed. She only lived with her mother because her father lived in the night kingdom. Ember hated both of her parents because one abandoned her and all the other cared about was Ember's animus powers. Yes, Ember had animus powers, could read minds, and see the future. There was a whole prophecy about how two mystery dragons would end the war. Everyone had their bets on Ember, so her mother had signed Ember up to be a soldier in Queen Rage's army when she turned nine, and tomorrow was her ninth birthday, so she would go to the army tomorrow. Oh, how Ember wished she was a
normal dragonet. Ember stretched her wings and walked toward Ruby, her mother. "What took you so long?! I thought you had turned into a lazy rainwing!" Ruby exclaimed. Ember hung her head. "Sorry, mother." She said. "Well, what is done is done. Now fight me!" She roared aggressively. Ember sighed and dodged the fire coming out of her mother's mouth. She clawed at Ruby's belly, making blood pour out. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! USE YOUR MAGIC,YOU LITTLE WORM!!!" Ruby roared. Ember sighed and read her mothers mind. Her mother was thinking some bad thoughts, too bad to put in this book, but Ember learned that if she didn't duck right now, she was toast. Ember quickly ducked, dodging a flurry of bites and kicks. Ember quickly ran behind her mother and stomped on her tail. She roared. "Good. Time to stop. You are ready for Queen Rage's army tomorrow." Ember sighed. Suddenly, she heard a gasp. "Mommy! What are you doing with her. You and my daddy are mates now, remember? She shouldn't be playing with you!" Ember felt bad. That was her
spoiled step-sister, Smolder. Ruby made a affectionate noise in her throat. "Of course, Smolder. I am just getting her ready so we can ship her away to the army." Ember frowned. This was how her whole life went. Getting treated like a pet scavenger. Smolder swung her tail back and forth, tripping Ember on purpose. Ember yipped in pain. "Mother! Smolder tried to hurt me!" Ruby snarled. "Stop whining and blaming things on your sister, you spoiled little brat." Ruby growled. Ember's eyes filled up with tears. This was how normal training sessions ended: Ember getting in trouble. Ember nodded. "Now, get in the dining room! Your father will be home soon with dinner." Ember brightened up. Her step-father was the only good thing about living in this place. He was very kind to Ember, even though Ruby didn't approve it. Ember was also sad about leaving her step-father, Burn, behind. This was one of the reasons she didn't want to be in Rage's army. Ember ran into the dining room and sat down at the log table. Ruby took out the place mats-scavenger skin. After Smolder
sat down, Burn came in with two charred cows. He smiled at the dragonets and started cutting up the cows. He started placing the meat on Ember's plate, but Ruby snorted in disapproval. "No, don't give her the cow. Give her those vegetables we found. We can't waste supplies on her. " Burn frowned. "But she is going to the army tomorrow. We should give her meat so she can have strength." He protested. Ruby snorted. "Fine, just a little meat won't hurt." Ember felt very, very lucky. She hardly ever got cow meat. She usually got fruits and vegetables, and the only meat she got usually was tiny birds or rats. Ember looked at Burn, thanking him with her eyes. Burn nodded and gave Ember a slice of meat. Ember dug in, happiness in her eyes. After dinner, Ruby and Smolder walked into her sleeping caverns, leaving Burn and Ember together. "Thank you for the cow." Ember said to Burn. "It was nothing. I am kind of mad how they treat you." Burn replied. "Its just not fair!" Ember nodded, agreeing with him. "Well, I won't be able to say bye to you tomorrow because the
general is picking you up in the morning, and I wanted to say I love you and happy birthday." Burn said to Ember. Ember blushed. "Thank you. I love you, too." Then Ember started to walk off toward her sleeping cavern, when Burn called her. "Wait!" He said. "I have something for you." Ember turned around, curiosity taking over, and walked back to Burn. Burn opened up a chest and started looking for something. "Where is it? Come on, where?" Finaly, he stopped looking and turned around, a box in hand. "Open it." He said, sounding exited. Ember looked at the box and slowly opened it. She gasped at what it was. Two Dreamvisitors. "Burn! Really!? Are you actually giving me these!?" She gasped. Burn nodded. "You can have a backup if one gets lost. Also, this way you can visit me whenever I'm sleeping. Happy Birthday, Ember." Ember's eyes teared up. "Thank you." She said happily. But Burn was already gone. The next day Ember opened her eyes to her mother shouting at her to pack up. Ember madly searched for her stuff, and stuffed it in her travel box. Then,
Ruby kicked Ember out of the house into a Skywing soldier's arms. literally. The skywing yelped in surprise, almost dropping Ember. Ember quickly flew out of his arms, next to him. "Hello." He said to Ember. "I'm Eagle." Eagle had a bright red body, but his wings were peculiar. They had shades of sky blue, and his horns were dark, dark blue. His eyes were navy blue and his claws looked like the sea itself. Eagle noticed Ember studying him intently. "Yeah, yeah. I know. I look weird. I'm a Skywing-seawing hybrid. What are you?" He asked. Ember hesitated, then spoke. "I'm Ember, a skywing-nightwing hybrid." Eagle looked astonished. "Woah." He said, but before he could say anything else, the third dragon barked an order. "Start flying back to the castle, soldiers!" He yelled. Eagle and Ember followed the third dragon towards the castle. When they got there, The third dragon introduced himself. "I am General Blaze, and welcome to the army!" After a LOT of training, Ember was sent to a bunk. Eagle, and two other dragons were in the room. Eagle smiled at Ember, and
Ember smiled back. Maybe being in the army won't be so bad. She thought. She looked at the other dragons in her bunk. One waved in greeting, and the other smiled at her. It won't be so bad at all.
Four years later.....
Ember roared orders at her squadron. As commander of the elite hybrid group, she was a beast. Fang, a Icewing-skywing hybrid, also another dragon in her bunk, dove at an Icewing on her command. Scorpion, another dragon in her bunk, also a sandwing-skywing hybrid, dove at another Icewing. Eagle fought alongside Ember. The elite hybrid bunk was doing great! Ember saw a Icewing about to breath his freezing-deathbreath on Eagle! Ember jumped on top of him and clamped his mouth shut, and breathed fire on the Icewing. Quite, shy Ember had transformed into a elite, killer dragon. But, she was still nice to everyone....on her side of the war.
The Icewing groaned in pain as Ember bit him in the neck. She slashed at his throat, and the Icewing dropped out of the sky, dead. Ember then watched as Scorpion stabbed a icewing through the heart with his tail. The Icewing's eyes rolled back into his head. The dragon was dead. Ember heard a order to retreat, and was pleased it wasn't General Blaze, but an Icewing soldier. The skywings cheered as the Icewings retreated. Ember looked around for stray Icewings that could have been dropped off as spies. Ember saw no pale-blue Icewings that were alive. As the troops retreated, Ember thought about the war. How come it still hasn't ended? And will I lose my soul if I keep on using my magic, even though I enchanted myself to never lose my soul? Ember then landed in unison by all of the other skywing soldiers. She saw Eagle looking sheepishly at Ember. Ember padded over to him. "What's wrong?" She asked, tilting her head. Eagle seemed to turn crimson with embarrassment. "Uh....ummm... You know how we have been friends for a while and are now all
grown up?" The seawing-skywing hybrid asked. Ember nodded, her black scales shimmering in the sunlight. Eagle looked uncomfortable and anxious. "I.....errrr...kinda....ummm....." "Come on, Eagle. Spit it out." Ember said. Eagle looked like he wanted to sink into the ground and stay there for the rest of his life. Then, he made eye contact with Ember. "Okay, okay......I like you." He said. Ember was stunned and happy. "W...will you.....?" He asked sheepishly. Ember smiled. "Yes." She said. Eagle beamed. "Now all we have to do is get approved by the queen, and we can be mates and do the breeding program!" Eagle said. Ember nodded. She wanted to stop fighting for a while, settle down, and have a family. The two hybrids then flew to Queen Rage's castle. They waited to see the queen. When it was their turn, the couple strolled up to Rage. They bowed. 'Your majesty." Ember said. "We want to be approved to be mates and take the breeding program." There was a terrible silence, and Ember thought that the queen was going to say no. Then, her voice broke the
silence. "Very well." Queen Rage said. Eagle nodded at Ember and they bowed one more time to Queen Rage and walked out of the throne room. Ember smiled at Eagle and they walked to the General's cave and told him the news about taking a break from the army. Blaze nodded. "Very well. Go home and lay an egg, Ember!" He joked. Ember beamed and the two mates flew to the mountain were some living space could be. The couple found a hut for sale and bought it. It only costed three cows. After a couple of weeks, Ember was keeping an egg warm, waiting for it to hatch. Then, one day, Ember heard a crack. She jumped off of the egg, startled. "Eagle! The egg!" She cried. Her husband sprinted into the living room, exited to meet his new dragonet. Suddenly, a snout poked out of the egg. The rest of the body slowly came into the view as the dragonet slid out of the egg. Ember looked at the dragonet. He was something Ember had never seen before. The dragonet had gills, like a seawing, and was a little blue, he was red like a skywing, but mostly black with white dots like
