At many points in your life, you will experience something new. This new thing can be small, such as sitting in a new seat in class or wearing a new pair of shoes.

This new thing can also be big, such as gaining a younger sibling or starting a new school year with a new teacher and different classmates.

In this book, I want to tell you about a time when I experienced a big new thing.

Welcome to the First

Day of School!

I'm so excited to meet you!

In 2018, I graduated from high school. I had to make an important decision about what I wanted to do next with my life. I decided I wanted to go to college.

Out of all the places I could have gone, I chose to attend Hope College in Holland, Michigan. My best friend, Fiona, decided to go there as well. I chose Hope College because they have a great program for learning to become a teacher.

During their first year, all the students at Hope College have to live on the college's campus. This meant I would have to move all of my stuff from my house into a dorm room.

On August 24th, 2018, it was time to move in! My family got up early in order to pack all of my stuff into our car. Once we finished, we drove to Gilmore Hall, the building I would be living in.

Fiona and her family met us there. We chose to be roommates, so we got to live in a dorm room together. It took a lot of effort to move all of our stuff, but we had fun setting up our room however we wanted.
