I am a Zayante Band-Winged Grasshopper and I live in Santa Cruz California, in the Zayante Sandhills
The Zayante Sandhills supports plant and animal life found nowhere else, It is one of the most rare ecosystems in California

Me and my grasshopper friends are small brownish-gray grasshoppers with blue hind legs. It has dark bands on its front wings, pale yellow hind wings, and bands around its eyes. Over the years our species has adapted to math our surrounding and blend in so we don't get eaten by predators
We feed on plants as well as grass or leafy bushes

A way I have adapted to the area I live in is the patterns on my wings blend in to my surroundings and we have adapted to the warm weather of California
If I were placed in Kansas I would not make it a year because of the cold winters that are experienced in Kansas

My species reproduces by the female grasshoppers deposit fertilized eggs in batches in the ground, on the ground, or less commonly, on grass or plant stems.
The main threat to our species is habitat loss. The introduction of non-native plant species of plants has also impacted our populations. Over-collection and pesticides have been identified as potential threats to our community too.
