AUTHOR'S NOTE: Sammy Durojaiye is a freshman undergraduate student currently in University Exploration. She is hoping to apply to the College of Public Health in December on a Sociology track. She has been apart of Best Buddies International for 5 years which is an organization which is a non-profit organization that aims to create one-to-one friendships with individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). She is an advocate for inclusion and strives everyday to make people of different backgrounds welcome.

Hi everyone! My name is Callie.
I am 8 years old and I have autism.
Most people will say that I have a disability.
But, I think having autism is my superpower.

Many people think differently of me because I have autism.
It has been hard to make friends because people see my autism as a bad thing.
I am not like everyone else.
I see the world in a way people cannot.

I have learned that our differences are what makes us unique.
People forget that I am just like them.
I am just a kid that faces obstacles that some would not understand.
My brain works differently from my friends and that is okay.
Sometimes I feel like no one understands me.
Some days I feel alone.
Some days I feel invisible.
