Eco-Friendly
What is eco-friendly?
Being eco-friendly means that you are making choices that do not harm the environment
Why should I be eco-friendly?
We only have one Earth and it is important to take care of it
How can I be eco-friendly?
This book has the ABC's of how to make eco-friendly choices that you and your family can start doing. Doing one thing from this book everyday can have a positive impact on our environment
A- Avoid single-use plastics
Items like straws, plastic water bottles, and even candy wrappers end up in our oceans and can hurt the animals that live there

B- Bike to school
Cars release a lot of greenhouse gases into the air, which can be harmful to the environment
C- Compost
Compost is a mixture of various decaying organic substances, such as dead leaves or manure, used for fertilizing soil.

D- Donate old clothes
Did you know people throw away around 81 pounds of clothes every year? That waste fills up landfills and do not break down easily
E- Eat less meat
Eating less meat can help save cows, pigs, and chicken and it helps reduce greenhouse gases

F- Freeze food before it goes bad
This reduces how much food is wasted, which means you do not have to buy more than you need
G- Grow your own fruits and vegetables
You're less likely to waste as much food when it is coming from your own backyard, plus it doesn't come with all the packaging that store bought food does

H- Hang clothes to dry
Did you know that dryers use more energy than your washer, fridge, and dishwasher combined?
I- Invest in reusable products
There are lots of items that you can buy to replace single-use plastics! Switching to reusable water bottles and metal or rubber straws can make a difference

J- Join or start an environmental club
Lots of schools and communities have environmental clubs that help make their area more eco-friendly. Kids for Saving Earth is a great online club you can join
K- Know what is recyclable and reusable
Not everything can be recycled or reused so it is important to have a list or chart that tells you what can go where

L- Learn to DIY
There are lots of ways you can turn old items and single-use plastics into functioning items, so think twice before you throw something away
M- Make your own cleaners
Did you know that you can make your own shampoo with ingredients from your kitchen? Before you go to the store, look to see what you can make at home!

N- Natural alternatives
Using natural alternatives to certain cleaning products in your home can reduce the amount of chemicals that are being released into the air
O- Open windows and blinds in the summer
Use natural air and light instead of using air conditioning and indoor lights
P- Plant a tree

Did you know that about 42,000,000 trees are cut down every day? This means that animals are losing their homes and more greenhouse gases are released into the air
