It was a typical Friday morning like any other. The sun was rising, the birds were chirping and the sounds of grass being mowed could be heard throughout the Webster's street.
Their house was located right at the end of a cul de sac, a dead end road with a circle at the end. The town was usually quiet as it was a rural country town. Many of the noises to be heard were just animals or the motors of tractors and or mowers.

Our story begins as the Webster brothers, Jacques and Symere, begin to wake up for school due to their first alarm going off. Just like anyone else though, Jacques hit the snooze button. Their mother knew when her boys were supposed to be up so she knew that something was up.
Mrs.Webster slams open the doors and exclaims "Boys! Get up for school or you're going to be late!" This woke the boys up instantly and they immediately hopped out of the bed.

"Now that mom left do you want to see if Super Ninja's on? asked Jacques
"Sure" Responded Symere "Here's the remote"
Then Jacques turned on the television and changed It to the typical channel.
"Oh perfect it looks like it's already on!" said Jacques
The television immediately starts announcing "In a world where danger runs rampant throughout, there is only one hero who can restore justice to the world......"

"Hey kids, Super Ninja here! I'm here to tell you about the amazing new cereal brought to us bye Sugar Flakes. This new addition to their line offers us 50% more sugar than the original version for 50% more crime-stopping power! If you want to help stop crime and be as powerful as me someday than the new Sugar Flakes is a must!"

"Let's get dressed and ready for school quickly so we can ask Mom if she'd get us Sugar Flakes!" Exclaimed Symere in excitement.
"Ok Ok calm down Symere we can go right after we get dressed." Jacques responded.
The boys rushed to get dressed and pack their bags as quickly as possible for the chance to ask their mom to purchase the cereal.

"Wow I'm surprised you guys finally got out of bed" Said Mrs. Webster sarcastically
"You know us Mom, always excited for school!" Responded Jacques.
"Mom Jacques and I were watching T.V quickly while we got ready and Jacques has a question for you" Symere says as Jacques starts to give him a death stare.
"Well....We were watching Super Ninja and he was saying how all of his power comes from Sugar Flakes so Symere and I decided we need it" Said Jacques

Symere and Jacques could see their mother's expression change almost instantaneously. She went from a care-free mood to an almost scary anger.
"Jacques I can't believe you just asked me that!" Exclaimed Mrs. Webster. "Boys haven't I told you enough times about the dangers of advertising? Are you seriously going to believe a brand mascot whose only job is to get you to buy the product?"
"But Mooooom" The boys said in unison.
"No buts, go grab your breakfast and eat at the table" Said their mother.

"I don't know why Mom won't just buy us the new Sugar Flakes. We'll never be able to stop crime like Super Ninja without it!" Said Jacques.
"I can still hear you guys!" Yelled Mrs. Webster from the kitchen. "You boys need to learn that not everything you see in an advertisement, or television in general for that matter, can be believed."
"Ok Mom" "Alright Mom", The boys responded.
They then ate their breakfast and went to their bus stop, thankfully on time.

Three other kids were already at the bus stop when Jacques and Symere arrived. The bus came soon after, although it didn't matter since it was so nice out.
Once they all got settled onto the bus all of the kids pulled out their smartphones and laptops. Mrs.Webster didn't allow either of her kids to bring electronics to school no matter how many times her sons said "everyone else has them"
Jacques and Symere sat next to each other as usual but soon after they sat down they felt tapping on their shoulders.

"Hey Jacques and Symere look at these games I had advertised to me on Instagram today! Don't they look so cool? Said Jordan
As the boys turned their attention to the phone they could see that there were three M Rated video games. As the boys were still in middle school they realized that this type of game wasn't for them, but Jordan thought this didn't apply to him.
"I don't know about that Jordan. I think you need parental approval to play those games for a reason." Jacques responded.

Jordan instantly gave Jacques a very confused look and asked "Then why would I have the games advertised to me?"
Jacques had to think about this for a second, as he didn't truly have an answer for this himself, however he used the knowledge he had gained from his mother in an attempt to answer.
"Well Jordan, there are going to be many things advertised to you that shouldn't be. Your job is to recognize what is appropriate for you and what isn't."
"Ya Jordan you shouldn't even consider playing those games for a couple years" Said Symere

This debate went on for the duration of the bus ride yet Jordan's belief still didn't change. As they were getting off the bus Jordan put forth one last response to end this argument.
"Well you guys can decide what's appropriate for you and what isn't. These games were advertised to me and I think I'm old enough to enjoy them."
"Whatever you say Jordan" Responded Jacques.
After this they all left the bus and headed into their Elementary School. As they were walking In their teacher, Mrs. Gove greeted them all as she typically did.

Just as they typically do, the boys went right to their lockers after they entered the building. As they walked down the hallway they pointed out all the flyers, or advertisements, out to Jordan to show him what is appropriate to advertise to someone their age.
Throughout these advertisements were many different offers to join clubs, musicals, sports teams, etc. All of these advertisements are age appropriate, which they should be since they're in a school, but the real problem with advertisements is when you add technology.

As the boys entered the classroom they could tell that this class was planned on the perfect day, as they could see "Advertising" on the front board.
"Oh boy Jordan looks like you have to pay close attention today!" Said Symere
"Good one!" Replied Jordan sarcastically "Now we can really see if those games should've been advertised to me"
"That we will" Jacques Replied.
After this exchange Mrs. Gove entered the room and offered up a question to start the day.
"Does anybody here have any examples of their own on advertising?

"Perfect" Thought Jacqwues before stating "Mrs. Gove Jordan has a great example he could share."
"Oh that's great! Jordan would you mind sharing that with us?" Asked Mrs. Gove
"Really dude?" Jordan whispered to Jacques
"What was that Jordan?" asked Mrs. Gove
"Nothing Mrs. Gove! Yes I'll be fine sharing my experience with the class. Should I come to the front?" Said Jordan
"Whatever you please Jordan. You can stay in your seat or come up here it doesn't matter to me.

Jordan stood up and walked to the front of the class, which came as no surprise as Jordan always seeks attention.
"So I was getting ready to go to bed last night and I was scrolling through my Instagram as anyone does. Suddenly advertisements for many different games came up like Grand Theft Auto, Call of Duty and Saints Row. Naturally I was drawn to these advertisements because there was a lot of action going on in the trailer. I talked with Jordan and Symere today and they don't believe it's age appropriate while I do."

"Thank you Jordan that was a very good example. You can take a seat now" Said Mrs. Gove
After this Jordan returned to his desk and Mrs. Gove started her response.
"Well you see class there's going to be many things advertised to you through social media and your job is to only focus on those appropriate to you. Now Jordan as for your example I would say that Jacques and Symere have a point because you are indeed in Elementrary School so there is no need for games of that nature"
"I see what you're saying Mrs. Gove but I think I'm mature enough to play it" Responded Jordan

"Jordan even just from that response I can already tell you aren't mature enough for those games" Said the teacher
"OHHHHHH!" The whole class yelled out
"Alright everybody calm down we're getting off track here now. So to start off this lesson I'm going to use Youtube as an example as so many kids are drawn to it. Just to see how many of you are familiar with it how many of you use Youtube?"
Everybody raised their hand in response to this.
"Perfect! Then we'll get right into business"

"Advertisments can be dangerous for everyone but they are especially dangerous for kids such as yourself as many companies will target you. Youtube is the perfect example for this as they have some well known functions related to this. Can anybody name one of these features?" Said Mrs. Gove
"I don't know if this would be right but I know the auto play feature can lead to more advertisements." Said Symere
"Great point Symere!" Said Mrs. Gove "But there's more to it than just that."

"As we can see here this is what the typical format of Youtube would be while watching a video" Said Mrs. Gove "If autoplay is turned on then videos will just keep playing until the site is closed."
"That happens to me all the time it's so annoying!" Lexi chimed in.
"I know isn't it? What makes it more annoying is that many inappropriate videos are put on the autoplay thus leaving the viewers with both non age appropriate content and advertising." Mrs. Gove Stated
