Meet Mrs Smartypantz, she is a year 4 teacher. Her students are very excited because today they will be given their own laptop to use at school and to take home. Before the students take home their laptop, it is important that Mrs Smartypantz reminds her students of a few rules about online behaviour and safety.

Digital Identity and Digital Security is very important for the students to understand. We spend a lot of time using technology everyday and every time we go online we leave a digital footprint behind. All the footprints we leave behind make up our Digital Identity. Your Digital Identity is a permanent record.

Mrs Smartypantz reminds her students that all the information they search online, the emails they send and the personal information and photos they upload will be permanently recorded and can be accessed by anyone. It is no different for Mrs Smartypantz either, everything she does online leaves footprints as well which can be misused and used against her by a future employer. She explains to her students that their Digital Identity can have negative impacts on their life now and in the future.
