Dedicated to my parents.

When Sarah was 2 years old, her mom and dad took her on a trip. They took her across the globe to find a new home in the magnificent United States, hoping to give her everything they never had. For Sarah, this new home would be the only one she would ever know.

Sarah had a normal life. She did well in school, she had friends, she did her homework, and she played in her backyard. She loved her family and was always kind to others. She spread joy and love everywhere she went.

As the years went by and Sarah got older, she began to notice that her life was a little different from everyone else. In the summer, she would hear stories of her friends going to the beach or Disney World. Meanwhile, she spent her summers with her grandparents and cousins who didn't seem to really understand her.

She noticed some people treated her differently too. They would make fun of her hair and her skin and her weird last name. She noticed when people at restaurants would get frustrated with her dad because he couldn't speak English very well. She began realizing that she and her parents were different from everyone else. She just didn't know why.

One day, when she was at the grocery with her mother, a man told them both to "go back where they came from." She didn't understand what that meant. Did she not belong here? If her parents really took her back to where she came from, she wouldn't belong there either.
