For my wonderful students!

Did you know that plants can move?
Plants do not move like humans or animals but they still show signs of movement.
Plants are able to sense their environment, modify their growth and move towards the light.
This happens because their growth is controlled by hormones. Hormones gather on the side of the stem that is away from the light, causing them to bend.
Certain plants, like daisies, open up their flowers when the sun rises and then closes them when the sun sets.
This type of movement is called sleep movement and it happens because of changes in pressure inside of the cells.
Plants do not have special sense organs, but are able to respond to their surroundings.
Certain plants like the Mimosa Pudica have leaves that actually fold inward and droop if they are touched, to protect them from being harmed.
