Planting a Garden
by Wilberto Pirela
First grade have the most beautiful garden in the school. Mrs. Kibler and my friends cleaned it up from weeds. We were digging in the soil. We learned how to plant the different kinds of plants. We watered the plants. We found millipedes, snails, and worms for pets. We grew a giant cabbage. We had so much fun together.

Taking Care of Plants
by Javier Delafe
Our class grew plants in the school garden. Plants need water, sun, air, and space to grow. We took care of them by watering them and by pulling the weeds every day. Sometimes we sprayed soapy water to keep away insects and ugly grubs. Mrs. Kibler called me the Water Manager. I always connect the hose and turn the water key. You pull it hard and then it springs back!

Composting
by Cesar Matos
Composting is changing old things like vegetable scraps, weeds and old papers into soil. After we finished our homework we put it in the composters, too. We have a little composter in the class. It's a worm farm. We have a big composter outside in the garden. We used sticks to mix it. The bugs and worms help us turn the old things into healthy soil for the plants.

Our Pets
by Emma

We have hundreds of pets. Worms are our class pets! They live in a box in our classroom. I love the worms a lot. We have worms because they help us make soil for the garden. Sometimes when we take out the worms we hold them and let them crawl and crawl! We rip our old homework papers into little strips and we feed them old scraps like banana peels and coffee grounds.

Tasting New Foods
by Asthon Sanchez
All of us worked together to plant, that is how all those fruits and vegetables grew. It was a lot of fun. We all tasted new foods. We ate all most all types of fruits and vegetables. I felt brave! The tomato plant that I planted got bigger than the teacher! When things were ripe we got to pick them and eat them right in the garden. We made salad for the whole first grade, too. I couldn't believe we even made a taco out of vegetables! That was because Mrs. Kibler told us to work in the garden and plant a lot. We got super strong and healthy!

Sharing the Harvest
by Roselyn Fajardo
In first grade my class helped with the school garden. We did gardening after lunch, sometimes. We picked food during school. The plants had to be ripe so we can pick them from the garden. We picked different veggies like broccoli, tomatoes and collard greens. We took the veggies to the cafeteria to share with the school. We made a salad for everyone. We share the vegetables and fruits so everybody can be healthy.

Reading by Amanda Sandrea
In first grade, we learn to read !! With the help of our teacher Mrs. Kibler and all the children in the classroom, we learn the words from the books. We gather in a circle to read the books we like. MyON, Wonders, i-Ready and Spelling City are practiced on the computer to learn new words and we do a comprehension tests. In AR, we get points, stickers and prizes. I am the only student to earn 100 points in AR, win prizes and congratulations of all. It was great! The classes are fun, we play with the imagination and we learn a lot!

Social Studies
by Jorge Gonzalez
In Social Studies we learned about the world. We made bread and butter to learn how the farms make our foods and how people lived a long time ago. It was delicious! On Hispanic Heritage Day we were dressed in the clothes of our country. I wore special clothes from Nicaragua. We celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday because he is a famous writer. That day was one of the best! I really enjoyed everything.

Halloween
by Flavia Pauquez
That was the happiest Halloween day of my life! My teacher Mrs. Kibler and my friends were all dressed up. We had a great time because we didn't have homework and we shared and played all day. There were many sweets and chocolates, and even fruit like mandarins, bananas and apples were in disguise for Halloween. It will be a day that I will never forget!

Field Day
by Jacob Salinas

On this day me and my classmates went to field day with Mrs. Kibler at our school Charles R. Hadley. We raced. We played games like hula hoop, water relay, and played against other 1st grade classes. We had so much fun.We got 1st place and tied with another class. I love all the ribbons we got on field day. Field day got me really tired from all the fun we had in the sun. I will never forget all the lovely memories I had with my classmates and Mrs. Kibler.
