This book is dedicated to my little sister, Katharine.

This was going to be Bobby's very first time away from his family. His mom and dad were going away for the weekend.
He was going to spend time with his cousin Violet and his Aunt Lily in their...
GIANT HOUSE.

I don't think I like this one bit!

Bobby and his parents pulled up to Violet and Aunt Lily's house. It was bigger than anything Bobby had ever seen!
"Oh no.." said Bobby, "this looks dangerous. There sure are a lot of rooms to get lost in!"

Mom? Are black cats bad luck?
Violet and Aunt Lily lived in an old, three-story house with HUGE trees, HUGE windows, and LOTS of stairs.
It was nice, but something about this house gave Bobby the
willies!

"Mom, what's that room up there?" Bobby's voice shook as he looked up at the top of the house. He quickly grabbed his mom's hand.
"That's called an attic, Bobby" said his mom. "And it's nothing to be afraid of. I promise."

BEEP BEEP! Bobby's dad honked the horn as Violet and Aunt Lily came racing out the door. Bobby stepped out of the car and was smothered with big bear hugs and kisses.
He said goodbye to his parents and turned to face the house. "Hmmmm" Bobby thought, "as long as I don't go into that attic, maybe this won't be so bad after all."
Even though Bobby was scared, he was ready for an adventure. Besides, Violet and Aunt Lily would always take care of him.

Violet was six months older than him, but they were both ten years old. Violet was in 5th grade and Bobby was in 4th. Violet covered him with a huge hug next, and then grabbed his hand.
"Come quick!" said Violet,"I have something to show you!" Bobby asked Aunt Lily if he could leave his bags by the door. Aunt Lily assured him that it was okay.

Bobby was not feeling nervous anymore. Where was his cousin leading him to?
Violet ran and pulled Bobby at the same time: up the stairs, past the bedrooms, and up some more stairs.
She stopped at the end of a hallway that ended with a large window.

Is this legal?

Looking out the window, Bobby saw fields of yellow wheat that did not end. Suddenly, Violet exclaimed, "Here! Look up! This is the entrance to our attic!"
Bobby saw a small door at the top of the stairs. He started feeling nervous all over again.

I don't think I like heights very much.
Violet pulled a string attached to the door. It creaked open and a ladder came down. "I have been waiting forever to show this to you! We have to climb up the ladder."
"This probably is not a good idea" Bobby tried to tell himself, "but what could be up there? I have never seen Violet this excited."
Bobby had been in his aunt's home for less than five minutes and it already seemed he and Violet were on a grand adventure.
