Chapter 1  

This is a story about two sisters, Olivia and Lydia; their distressing times and ecstatic moments. Determination is all they need to solve the mystery.

Olivia has brown hair with buttery streaks. She usually wears scruffy navy blue jeans and a baggy T shirt. She is 14.

Lydia has blonde hair tumbling down to her ribs. She wears cream jodhpurs and a dirty top. She is 15.

Chapter 2

The two girls were walking to school when they saw their friends Lila and Issie.

"Hi!" Olivia and Lydia chorused

"Hello, I am looking forward to our trip to York at the weekend," said Issie. They were all going to York together.

They were now approaching the school. “Keep out of the way of Leena and Emily” Lila whispered to the girls.

RING RING RING RING

They walked towards the school building ready for class.

Chapter 3

“Let’s go Issie.”

“Come on Olivia.”

The girls were in the car ready to set off to York.

When they got there, they decided to have lunch. They all had a wonderful lunch of pizza Magerita.

Meanwhile back at the farm, a man in a cloak came and stole, STOLE the horses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!He was wearing a mask and a cloak.  He heard an engine so he grabbed a horse, mounted it, clutched the others and galloped away as fast as lightening.

Chapter 4

I’m going to check on the horses first,” said Lydia.

But when she got there she was amazed to see that the horses had disappeared. She went to get her friends from in the house.

“Help! the horses have disappeared “

They all ran towards the field and frantically hunted for any clues.

“Look a poster” shouted Issie suddenly.

“Romesco’s Ravishing Circus”

“It might be Romesco," said Olivia excitedly.

“Yes, I’ll go call the police” cried Lila.

“Wait! It could be someone working Romesco’s circus,” said Lydia.

“What shall we do now?” cried Issie distressed at the thought of never seeing her beloved Comet again.  

Chapter 5

They woke up early and remembered instantly they needed to go straight to Romesco’s circus that today.

“Lydia let’s go get Issie and Lila from their house to go to Romesco’s circus” announced Olivia brightly. They got dressed, had breakfast and then walked quickly to Issie’s and Lila’s house. They knew that this would be daunting and dangerous.

“So does anybody know where the circus is?” asked Olivia

“I did some research to find circuses near here and there’s one 5 miles that way” replied Lydia

“And we've got Nemo to stop anyone getting on the wrong side of us” said Issie bravely.

Nemo was their spaniel. She was as brown as swirly melted chocolate and as excitable as a toddler eating an ice cream. 

Chapter 6

“Here we are” said Lila nervously.

“Ok I have a plan. Lila and Olivia watch from that side. Issie, we will go this side. Nemo come with us.” Said Lydia firmly.

They walked towards the vibrant circus tent.           

“The first act is clowns." stated Lila to Issie "Sit back, relax and watch”

There was heaps to enjoy and watch.

Finally, it was the horses turn. They watched in horror as  Comet (Issie) Star (Lila) Belle (Lydia) and Damsel for Olivia paraded into the tent . We have to save them thought all the girls.

Once the act was over they got a hot dog and put their heads together to create a cunning plan.

They crept over to the stables cautiously. 

 Chapter 7

The stables were dusty and made of wood that smelled newly varnished.

“Stop there kids!” A man shouted “What do ya think your doing?”

“Oh help!” whispered Olivia to Lydia

“Err we came to find the reception desk to see when the next show is,” said Lydia nervously.  

“Ok but your only kids” he said still suspicious

But this time it was Issie that said something clever.

“Our brother got scared and we were going home mid way through but we stayed here till the end to see when the next circus is on” she said.

"Why didn't you just watch the show by yourselves?" He asked thoughtfully

"Mum says we couldn't watch the show by ourselves because of all the strangers sitting near us." Said Issie .

"Be quick then," he uttered gruffly

Chapter 8

The girls talked hurriedly to one another.

“Well done Issie”

“It’s an amazing idea”

“Really good thinking”

“Guys, what if we all go in the office and distract the receptionist. Some of us could sneak out of the office to find the horses. After, those in the reception could come and join us,” said Lydia.

“What if I stay outside the reception and you all go in? When the receptionist is distracted Lydia and I could swap. Lydia could sneak off,” said Olivia.

"Excellent plan" They all agreed.

Chapter 9

The girls all walked towards the door. Olivia took a quick glance behind her and hid behind the bin. The others walked in the office and Lydia frantically put her hair in a bobble to match Olivia’s. When they got in reception Issie walked to the desk.

“Please can you take me to the toilet?” she asked politely

“No problem. Follow me!” said the receptionist

The lady took them to the toilets and Lydia and Olivia quickly swapped places. Lydia hid until they had gone.

Then she jumped out of her hiding space and walked rapidly down the corridor.

When she saw that Belle was attached to a chain and was wearing an incredibly spiky head collar she nearly went berserk, but then she remembered she wasn't meant to be here and gave all the horses a comforting stroke.

Chapter 11

“So, does anybody have a plan that could work?” Asked Lila that night in the living room.

" Yes, I have an idea.” Said Issie               

“Tell us then” Demanded Olivia                          

“First, we should get their head collars, put them on the horses, then lead them out of the back door and ride back.” Issie replied

“Ok, but how are we going to ride with no tack and only a head collar?” questioned Lydia     

“Ride bareback and hold on the head collars” replied Issie  

“Let’s go get them now” Said Olivia.
