For Mrs. Coen and the rest of the 4th period American Lit. Class

Jimmy believes that being an American is about serving others and putting them before himself.
This is the reason why he left his friends and family to go serve in the War of 2022.

"Mom, I have decided that I want to serve my country and stand up for the rights that we have!"

"Oh Jimmy. That is so brave of you! I also believe that standing up in a time of need is what makes a true American. Go make me and your father proud Jim."

Jimmy was sent to go fight the enemy and take back what he and his fellow Americans had fought for their entire lives. His freedom.

As Jimmy marched into combat he thought about how proud he is of his country and how his service is not only to win the war, but also to protect everyone that lives in the United States.

"Fighting for my country makes me feel proud!"
"I realize that I may sacrifice my life today, but I feel it is my duty to my country."

There were so many brave men and women around him feeling the same way. As they anxiously awaited the battle to start, they had lots of time on their hands as they were walking and waiting to talk. During this time, he realized how many people feel the same way he does.

When Jimmy got shot, his life started to flash in front of his eyes. He thought about what he did to be a good American citizen. He followed rules, made change when he could, was welcoming to people around him, cared about others, and most importantly he put himself in harms way to protect it all.
"He shot me!"

"Congratulations, Soldier!"
Jimmy was awarded the purple heart for his sacrifice and had never felt more accomplished in his entire life.

I can't wait to get home!
On his way home, Jimmy thought about how much he loves his country and everyone in it. He had forgiven everyone for things that had happened in the past and realized that forgiveness is a huge part of being an "American."

When Jimmy reached home he came across many protesters complaining about the war.

"War is wrong!"
"We should only be focusing on our own country! We should not be sending our men, women, and children into a battle for their death!
"PEACE!"

As Jimmy went out in public and walked around the town, he could not help but feel like other people were judging him. What he had heard from the protesters upon arriving home really bothered him. He knew that there were people opposed to war, but did not realize that people would make him feel this way.

He often felt like people were staring at him wherever he went out. It made him feel sad and he started to think that he risked his life and ended up being injured for nothing. He was really down on himself and needed to figure out how to get that feeling back that he had before he left for war.

As Jimmy kept walking, he went around a corner and looked across the street. There was a building with a huge American Flag on it. For some reason it was as if the building was calling to him. He crossed the street for a closer look.
