"Every kid
needs a
champion!"
By Rita Pierson
Rita Pierson, a professional educator since 1972, taught elementary school, junior high and special education. She was a counselor, a testing coordinator and an assistant principal. In each of these roles, she brought a special energy to the role - a desire to get to know her students, show them how much they matter and support them in their growth, even if it was modest.

Rita Pierson spent her entire life in or around the classroom, having followed her parents and grandparents into a career as an educator.
She was one of the guests at the "TED Talks Education" program, where she discussed from her point of view what the connection between teacher and student should be.

This video in the program "TED Talks Education" is about Rita Pierson´s speech, this has already been understood from the previous pages, she has been an educator for forty years. For this reason, she could see the different reforms which have occurred over the years in education.

The aim of her conference is raising public awareness that even if knowing the academic failure´s causes, such as poverty, absences from classes, negative influence of colleagues, there is something that is never discussed: human relationships!

Rita Pierson considers very important that the communication between a teacher and a student, because the link established between them must be solid. Moreover, one of the main teacher´s concerns should be to motivate students to become what they want to be.
Although the most important teacher´s task is teaching, their work isn´t only limited to that, a teacher must know how to apologize to their students, to understand them, to try to strengthen their academic self-confidence and above all, make them feel someone.
