It was a dark and scary night in Coventry, England. Adeline’s entire family was asleep but she was not tired. Adeline did not know why she could not sleep.

Outside, Adeline could hear the low hum of something big heading our way. Mama and Papa came and woke them up.

Papa said “We need to leave and find someplace safe where we can stay for a while. No questions children, just hurry!”

They followed without question. Adeline’s younger brother Nicolas was scared but she helped him to remain fearless and strong.

Adeline’s older sister Sophie was afraid of nothing and kept the two safe. As they rushed away from their home, the children lost their parents. “Where are Mama and Papa Sophie?” cried Nicolas.

They had lost them in the crowd of people rushing outside of their own homes to get to safety. “We’ll find them, don’t worry” Sophie said. Adeline knew she had to remain strong for her brother.

Adeline, Nicolas, and Sophie followed the crowd to a railway that seemed to go underground. They hoped to find their parents here.

When they got inside, they recognized their Aunt Diane and Uncle Louis. “Aunt Diane, Uncle Louis!” the children cried. The couple turned their heads and ran towards the children. 

They had their dog Fru Fru with them and that made everything better. The children, with the help of their uncle and aunt, found their parents. They were all safe, but Adeline was concerned.

“Why can’t we go outside yet Papa?” she asked. He claimed that he did not want anyone to get hurt. "It's a dangerous world outside" he said. "We safe here for now".

Adeline thought the first few days in this new world were great. She met many new friends and she never once thought of the world outside.
