Many Christians lived in Jerusalem. It is where the church began; however, not everyone in Jerusalem liked Jesus, and they were very mean to the people who followed Him. Because of this, many Christians had to run away.

One Christian who left Jerusalem was named Philip. Philip escaped to a city called Samaria.

Once in Samaria, Philip immediately started preaching the gospel, telling the good news that Jesus saves.

As people in Samaria listened to Philip's preaching, he was able to perform miracles, signs and wonders. Sick people were healed, and people who were very sad suddenly felt very happy. Because of all these wonderful miracles, there was great joy in the city. Everyone was so happy.

One person who heard Philip preach was named Simon.

For many years, Simon had used tricks to make people think he was a great man of God.

When Simon heard Philip's message, Simon was baptized in Jesus' name.
