Hi! My name is Kacey, come and explore our solar system with me!

How it Started
Scientists like me think that the solar system was formed millions and millions of years ago.
It began as a huge cloud of gas and dust like the one one the next page!

The huge cloud of gas

The huge cloud of gas and dust slowly got bigger and thicker

Over millions of years the gas and dust orbit around the sun.

The dust and gas joined together to make the planets.

The Sun
The sun is a massive ball of burning gases called a star. It gives the planets their light and heat.
The sun looks massive to us than other stars because the sun is closer to the earth.

Never look at the sun directly because it is too bright and can blind you! You have to wear special glasses to!

Planets
We have eight planets in our solar system.
Mercury is the closest to the sun, we are the third planet closest to the sun and Neptune is the furthest away from the sun (but it is not the coldest planet because it has an atmosphere that traps in the sun's rays). Uranus has a cold atmosphere and is the coldest planet orbiting the sun.
Planets

Saturn and Neptune have rings, Saturn's ring is horizontal while Neptune's ring is vertical
Did you know that Jupiter, being the largest planet has sixty-seven moons we have discovered? While earth sits with one moon.

Life
Earth is the only planet in our solar system that holds life because it has water and without water we can't survive!
some scientists are trying to come up with a way to live on Mars, but I think that's a silly idea because it would be way too cold!

Earth is the only planet with water

Solar Systems
The solar system consists of the sun and everything that orbits, or travels around, the sun. This includes the eight planets and their moons, dwarf planets, countless asteroids, comets, and other small, icy objects. However, even with all these things, most of the solar system is empty space.
