Gazing in awe at the monstrosity before her, Rae stood, still and silent. The intimidating chilliness that shrouded the manor sent a wave of dread cascading down her spine. Gnarled trees flanked the looming structure, casting eerie shadows in the fading glow of twilight. A heaviness so inexplicable hung in the air as the wind sings a tuneless lullaby.
Ominous clouds gathered overhead, as lightning danced across the sky.
The sight of it all overwhelmed her, a part of her begging to leave. Yet another part- the part that held the zealous curiosity of a child, led her to take another bold step forward.

As if on cue, the door rasped open. One moment she was outside, the next she was within, despite having never taken a step.
The door slammed shut, concealing her within the depths of the manor. Rae could hear the thudding of her heart, pounding like drums in her chest.
SLAM!

The floorboards beneath her moaned with age as she shifted her weight on the balls of her feet.
The manor appeared to have a life of its own, the incessant whispers reverberating off the walls. Despite the relentless hum of commotion, all noise drowned out at the sight of the figure perched atop the winding stairwells.
"Fayre," she managed to breathe through parched lips.
"Fayre," she breathed even louder, though it could not have been more than a mere whisper.
A sense of confusion stirred inside Rae. The pain that once burned like a fire reignited inside her.

It cannot be...

Fayre...
Fayre, the sister whom Rae lost a year ago had left a gaping hole ever since. The aching yearn to be with her muddled all senses of reality.
Yet her sister didn't seem to fathom her cries, only drifting off further in a trance-like saunter.
