The geologic time scale is a scale that divides Earth's age into many eons, eras, periods, and epochs.
This allows us to accurately date life and history at that time.

We measure the geologic time scale with methods such as: carbon dating, radioactive dating, radiometric dating, and dating rocks!

How old is Earth?
I am glad you asked! The Earth is 4.6 Billion years old!
The Earth had many changes over its lifetime, and we can categorize these changes within Earth's periods!

Did you know?
Humans have only been on this Earth for 200,000 years! That means, the world was 4,599,800,000 when humans first started roaming this world!

Now... Let's use the Geologic Time Scale to list all of Earth's periods throughout history!
Make sure to take note of any life during that time!
Also list the years of the period!

Precambrian Period:
(4.6 BYA to 541 MYA)
There is no life on land.
Cambrian Period:
(541mya-485.4 mya)
Mollusks, worms, sponges and echinoderms filled the Cambrian seas.
Ordovician Period:
(485.4 Mya-443.8 Mya)
During this time, there were many floods.
We see life in the form of worms, cnidarians, or soft-bodied insects and crustaceans.
Mild climate with glaciers forming at end of period, causing shallow seas.
Silurian Period:
(443.8 Mya-419.2 Mya)
Jawed fish and bony fish appear and diversify. Multi-cellular life also began to appear on land and plants grew beside water. Insects and crustaceans are also first found on land during the Silurian.
Weather is warm and stable.
