CHAPTER ONE: HERE SHE COMES!
Andy and Cooper were finishing off their morning chores, milking the cows. Andy, the dog, trailed behind the boys. Mom was folding the laundry, in the front yard, on the clothesline. Dad had traveled to Minnesota to buy more flour.
And as Mom promised, Cooper and Mom headed downtown, and grabbed themselves a little treat from the Ice-Cream Shop.
"You know what," Andy said, carrying the milk bucket over to Cooper. "I think we need some more company around here."
"What for?" Cooper asked. He wiped his sweaty
forehead with his handkerchief, that his grandma gave him, before she passed on. "We have Andy right here with us. Why would we need any other company?" Cooper patted Andy's head, and Andy smiled at Cooper.
"Well," Andy continued. "I mean like human friends. We have a dog now, but we need real friends." Andy, the dog, cocked his head to the side, and let out a little whimper.
They found the dog in the barn on Rocky River Farm in the backyard. He was next to the horses. The Brown family decided to keep him. After a brief family dispute, they named the dog, Andy.
There was a beeping noise coming from next door. Cooper stopped milking the cows, and rushed to the
window. His mouth flew open.
"What is it, Cooper?" Andy asked, walking up to the window. 'Why is your mouth open like that? Is it Mrs. Brooks?"
Mrs. Brooks was Cooper's teacher in the fifth-grade. He didn't like her that much, because he hated math!
Andy walked up to the window, stood on tiptoe, and peered through the window.
Mom stepped into the barn. "Are you boys done milking the cows. We need that milk to make dessert tonight." she said. "What are you guys looking at?"
Cooper motioned for Mom to come to the window.
"Someone's moving in," Cooper exclaimed.
"You never knew?" Mom asked.
"No," Andy said.
"Well, those are the Dale's," Mom told them. "Mrs. Dale was my closest friend in high-school. I begged her to move here, so that I could reach her a lot easier."
Andy nodded his head. "Do they have kids?"
"That's not a polite question to ask," Mom replied. "And yes, they do have a child."
"Boy or girl?" Cooper asked impatiently.
"They have a girl," Mom answered. "Her name is Molly Dale. She's about your age, Andy."
Andy and Cooper beamed. "She's finally here,"

CHAPTER TWO: DOUBLE TROUBLE
That afternoon, Mom had arranged a play date between Andy and Cooper, and the Dale's.
"This will be wonderful," Mom had said. "You'll all have so much fun!"

Dad had come back from Minnesota with fifty-two ounces of flour in the bag of the wagon. He unhitched the team, and tied the horses back in the barn.
"Do we have enough flour for dessert tonight?" he asked, unloading the wagon.

Dad had come back from Minnesota with fifty-two ounces of flour in the back of the wagon.
"How much flour did you buy?" Mom asked, closing the barn doors shut.
"'Bout fifty-two ounces," Dad replied.
"Yes, Dan!" Mom exclaimed. "That should be enough for the apple pie, I was planning to bake!"
Andy and Cooper looked confused. Cooper said, "But how, Mom? That's going to be too much flour!"
Mom got a piece of paper, and began writing. She wrote: 53 divided by 3 equals = 18.
"Uh, Mom," Cooper said. "Who's the third person eating the pie?"
"Molly, of course!" Mom chuckled. "Who else?"
"Molly's eating dessert with us?" Andy screamed.
"Yep, and they're going to be here any minute,"
There was a sudden knock on the door. When Mom opened the door, standing there was Molly. A little girl, about four-years-old, stood next to her. "Good afternoon, ma'am!" they said in unison.
"Oh, come in, come in," Mom said, welcoming them. Mrs. Dale and Mom hugged each other. Mr. Dale and Dad shook hands.
"Where are your two handsome sons?" Mrs. Dale asked, looking around the place.
Mom shot a worried look at Dad. Dad led Andy and Cooper to the living room.
"Good afternoon," the boys said, sighing.
