Where and when the story happened/ Protagonists-Characters
I was in my junior year when I met a group of popular kids in my school. They were so fun to be around, and I wanted to be one of them. They were very handsome boys and beautiful girls. Those kids always were well dressed and trending. Every day they wore new shoes and nice and expensive clothes.
However, there was one thing that troubled me about those kids. They were not the brightest students in school! Those students were so careless about school. They skipped class all the time, and when they were in the classroom, they were very disruptive. They enjoyed teasing the teachers and making fun of their classmates.

What happened first?
One day, Martha, one of the popular kids' leaders, invited me to her birthday party. That afternoon, I was in the cafeteria with Karla, my best friend. We were enjoying some delicious cookies that Karla's mom baked for us.
"Hey Janet, do you want to come over for my birthday party next month?"
"Yes, I want to go! Thank you for inviting us, Martha!
"No, no! I am inviting you, Janet!
Martha said while giving a weird look to my friend Karla.
"I am not sure if I can go to your party, Martha. I already have plans with Karla, but thank you for the invitation, though."

What happened next? The next day Martha asked me again to come over to her party.
"Como on Janet, come to my party, it will be fun, I promise!"
Martha insisted with lowliness and enthusiasm, but I still shake my head from side to side to say no. I was not going anywhere without my friend.
"Okay, okay, I invite Karla if you convince her to represent us in the beauty contest next week." She will be Omar's date, the best athlete in school. Okay?
Martha requested with a cheerful smile. And I found the idea exciting because it could raise Karla's confidence to make new friends. She was brilliant and pretty but extremely shy.
"Well, I will ask Karla what she thinks about it. But if she says yes, you must help her to prepare for the contest. Okay, Martha?"
"We have a deal, Janet!" I will get Karla a beautiful dress, shoes, and accessories! I will also do her make-up. Okay?
"That sounds great, Martha, but you have to promise me not to play a game with my friend. I know how crazy you can be."
"No games, I promise, Janet!"
I wanted to go to the birthday party so much that I ignored Martha and her friends' bullying nature. I assure myself that everything would be okay, and I convinced Karla to represent my class in the school beauty contest.
"Hey, Martha, Karla accepted! And now what?"
"Good job, Janet! But, do not tell Omar or anyone else that Karla is our candidate! We want to make it a surprise. Everyone will be amused by how beautiful Karla will look that none will recognize her. Okay?

"Are you sure, Martha? Omar should know who he will be escorting in the beauty contest."
"No, no, it has to be a beautiful surprise!" He will fall in love with Karla! It will be another Cinderella story!"
I have my doubts, but again, the desire to attend Martha's party was stronger than my fear that Martha may be planning to ridicule Karla to entertain her bullying friends. So, one more time, I complied with Martha's plans. As requested by Martha, I told my friend Karla that she must be at Martha's home at 3 pm on Saturday. I explained to Karla that Martha would help her get dressed and put makeup on for the beauty contest at 5 pm. Karla was so excited about the big day. After all, it would be the first time she participates in a beauty contest.
She was especially happy because Omar, the most handsome and athletic boy in school, will be escorting her to the stage. I knew she had a crush on him.
What happened last?
It was 4:30 pm; I arrived early at school because I wanted to see Karla before the beauty contest started. Omar was also waiting at the parking lot. Martha asked him to wait there for his date so that he could meet her before the event. I also noticed that all Martha's friends were at the parking lot waiting for something. For an instant, I thought it was weird, but one more time, I forget it and assure myself that everything was going to be alright. At 4:45 pm, Martha parked her car near mine, I jumped from my seat and ran to see my friend Karla. My heart was pounding like it wanted to get out of my chest.
As I got closer, Martha got off and opened the car's back door for Karla to get out.
