What is augmented reality or AR?

AR integrates digital information into the user's environment (Rouse, n.d.). 

AR has gained uses in sports, training, the medical field, entertainment as well as being used in modern-day automobiles.

AR also has a lot of uses in the classroom.

As AR improves more and more companies are using this technology to create applications for the classroom.

The use of AR in the classroom can lead to new and interesting ways to engage learners (Brown, 2015)(ISTE E.1.a). Let's take a look at just a few of the possible options!

BBC's Civilisations app allows students to walk around and view 41 different artifacts from various civilizations and includes information and recordings about the history of these objects.

AR Solar System allows the user to superimpose the solar system anywhere they are.  This app also has a detailed explanation about each of the planets as well as the asteroid belt.  In addition to its AR features, the app also has an integrated virtual reality option.

Anatomy 4D allows students to view the various systems that comprise the human body.  AR Anatomy also has worksheets to download, print, and scan QR codes within the app for additional content.
