Archaeologists recently discovered walls made of horrible material while digging the floor of a church in Ghent, Belgium. These walls consisted of human bones, including fragmented skulls.
At the end of the excavation, archaeologists have uncovered nine walls that were built mostly with adult thigh and shin bones. The Dutch company Ruben Willaert, who discovered the walls during excavation for a new visitor center in the cathedral, unearthed areas filled with district skulls.
Archaeologist Janiek De Gryse said:
“You can't just randomly throw skeletons that come out when cleaning a churchyard. Given that believers believe their bodies will rise, the bones in question will of course be considered the most important part. ”

"Preserving human remains was so important that in some places stone houses were built across city tombs to preserve bones."
