Hi Tina, I was wondering if Ms. Redeat is here today, I want to know what nursing homes are, I overheard my dad saying that he's going to put my grandma in a nursing home.
Good afternoon Kiya, Sure she's home, lets go inside!
I am pretty sure she'll let you know what you need to know about nursing homes.

Oh it's because Ms.Redeat is a nursing home administrator and she have a lot of knowledge about it.
Why didn't you ask your dad about this before you decided to ask Ms.Redeat?

Hello Kiya, What brought you here today?
Hi Ms.Redeat, I want to learn about nursing homes today.
Sure thing, lets go by my desk so I can show you examples from my book.

Nursing homes are homes for the aged, they are also called specialist nursing offices, dedicated to caring for the elderly with severe or chronic disabilities who are incapable of caring for themselves.
Although support is provided with everyday living exercises, the main component of the facility offers special nursing care.
So Ms. Redeat, What exactly is a nursing home?

Services Nursing Homes offer
Nursing homes offer the most effective care that a person can get outside a hospital. As well as clinical treatment, such as bathing, getting ready, and eating. Nursing homes provide mostly assistance with hospital based care. A registered nurse provides skilled nursing services which requires patient examination and care.

Kiya, do you have a better understanding of nursing homes now?
Sure, but what is the difference between nursing home and assisted living?

That's a good question, lets take a look at the book.
Assisted living VS Nursing Homes
-There is no skilled nursing staff for an assisted living home, and private pay is often limited for assisted living. But nursing homes fund Medicaid and Medicare in addition to personal pay or health benefits.
-Daily living activities (ADLs) with some or little assistance, such as washing, dressing and toileting, are often required to be undertaken by residents in an assisted living community. For nursing home patients, ADLs require much larger assistance.
Oh I see...

You see kiya... The nursing home is for people who need more health services than simple assistance and assistance in carrying out their regular activities. The main differences between the nursing home and the assisted living facility is the standard of care given to the patients.
So, how can my family pay for nursing homes?

Kiya, it is important to research funding options as you and your family determine your long-term care needs. Payment can be provided by Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance and some other personal home care programs.
You and your family may need to ask the administrative staff what payment options they accept when reviewing nursing homes.
How would we know which types of funding to use?

Financing Option 1
-The first financing option is medicare, it's a health insurance program that offers health care benefits to individuals aged 65 years and over. This insurance is given to cover major hospital care.
-Medicare can provide nursing care for a period of time only if the person needs qualified care and if it's recommended by the doctor to leave the hospital.
-Medicare is not going to cover it if the client needs other treatment alone.
Let's take a look at the financing method stated in the book!

Financing Option 2
-The second option is medicaid health insurance, this insurance provides low-income individuals who meet the requirements for health care coverage.
-Medicaid also offers nursing home care, but the standards and services covered differ depending on the state.
-People generally have to spend all of their assets first to become eligible for Medicaid coverage. This means that they will be paying out of pocket for nursing home care. Medicaid comes in handy before the money goes out.
Here is option two of financing.
