"Schools’ defenders of the Earth"
Mission 3
Students and teachers from partner schools perform water experiments and create a collaborative story!!!

22nd Kindergarten of Keratsini
The title of experiment:
Flotation and immersion.
Materials: 1. α bowl or a bucket or a bowl made out of glass.
2. Various things such as: cork, plastic clothespin, lid, beans, wooden brick, battery, straw, stone, paper etc.
Procedure:
The children threw various objects in a bowl filled with water after they made assumptions about what might sink and what might float. Then, they tested all of them, made their observations and recorded the results.
They began to wonder ... Why other objects sink and others float? They realised that some of them sink very quickly and others slowly. The students understood that the sinking time of each object depends on the material it is made of.
Results: Students finally, understood which materials sink quickly (iron) or sink slowly (paper) or don't sink at all (wood).

18th Kindergarten of Agios Dimitrios
Εxperiment:
Melting and Freezing
Procedure:
we read the story :"Τhe crone and the diamond"and made assumptions about how the crone's treasure(ice cube)disappeared when it was put beside the window.Motivated by the story, they found ways to take back their "treasures"- which were small toys and objects-when these had already been frozen.
The story called"The fox,the wolf and the fish"prompted us to exchange ideas about how the wolf lost his tail while using it as a fishing rod during the night. What will happen if we put small odjects in a really cold place like the freezer?
Our little scientists wrote down their conclusions

Absorption - Evaporation Experiments 1.

WATER CYCLE
Materials:
Ziplock Bag, Water, Blue Paint, a4 Paper and Crayons
Procedure:
Our students drew sun, clouds and sea on an a4 sheet.

We afixxed these pictures to the back of our ziplock bags. We poured the water that we coloured with watercolor into ziplock bag. And we closed the bag tightly.
Then with the help of a tape, we attached it to the window of our classroom to a sun-exposed window. And we started the observe.

Results:
After a while, the water will evaporate and from droplets in the bag.
The water evaporates and rises with the effect of the sun and turns to the earth by condensing with the effect of the cold air in the atmosphere. This event is called the water cycle.
Absorption - Evaporation Experiments 2.
HOW RAIN OCCURS?
Materials:
Shaving Foam
Water
Food Coloring
A Jar
Dropper or Straw

Procedure
We filled half the glass jar with water. We filled the water with shaving foam.
We poured a few drops of blue paint on the foam.

Results
Rain is a natural phenomenon and an important part of the water cycle. The sun heats the water on earth. The heated water evaporates and rises to the sky. As it rises, it cools and forms droplets. This is called condensation. Inside the clouds, tiny droplets come together to form larger droplets. If the density of the water drop is greater than the density of the cloud, the drops fall from the surface of the cloud to the earth. So it rains.

2nd Kindergarden of Peristeriou
Floating immersion experiment

Μaterials
1 bowl of water egg (salt)
mandarin
plasticine
paper clip
stick
plastic lid
paper
sponge
iron
stone
coin and other items in the classroom
Procedure:
The children have to help the ant to cross the lake, what can it use that will not sink? The children reported materials from the classroom and we did tests. The kindergarten teacher also added some objects (egg, mandarin to see the different behaviors of the ingredients in the salt water, without the skin). The children wrote down their cases on paper as best they could.
Results:
The objects that float from the ones that sink are located and placed in two groups. Next, they categorize the materials from which the floating objects are made (plastic, wood, cork) from the ones that sink (iron, stone). We encourage them to use the words floats and sinks.

Water solubility
6th kindergarten of Agios Dimitrios

Water solubility experiment
Materials:
1.three glasses of water
2.Salt
3.rice
4.sugar

The experiment was performed in distance education
The children collected the materials and made assumptions about the materials that dissolve in water. They wrote down the hypotheses on paper and then performed the experiment. In the end, they checked the cases.

1st kindergarten of Ilioupoli
Εxperiment:
Melting and Freezing
Procedure:
We watch a video about the states of water and exchange ideas what is going to happen if we put water in the
refrigerator, in freezer, if we boil water or ice, if we heat water or ice.
Materials:
water,
ice
glass,
pot or kettle,
electic stove
