Feeling sick and missing school is not very fun.  Let us talk about what we can do in school to stay happy and healthy.  Do you know how we can stay healthy while at school? 

That is right!  Hand washing is an excellent way to stay healthy throughout the day.  "Thorough and regular hand washing is one of the best ways to prevent the spread of infection and disease" (Groark & Song, 2012, p. 164). 

Can you think of a second way to stay healthy?

That is right, using a tissue!  When you sneeze or cough, it is best to catch the sneeze or cough in a tissue and then wash your hands.  

Can you think of a third way to stay healthy while in school?

Has a doctor given you a shot before?  Did you get a piece of candy because you were so brave?  Getting a shot from the doctor helps us raise our resistance in fighting off serious illnesses (Imran et al., 2014). 

Do you think eating healthy food will help you stay healthy and feeling good?

You are right again!  Healthy eating during the school day encourages children to taste test fruits and vegetables while also increasing their exposure to a variety of healthy food options (Zaltz et al., 2020).
