Benjamin Franklin was born in Boston in 1706. In 1749, Franklin proposes a plan for an Academy and developed it into the University of Pennsylvania. In 1754 he proposed a plan for uniting the colonies under a national congress. Benjamin Franklin helped negotiate the Treaty of Paris that ended the Revolutionary War in 1783. He passed on April 17, 1790 in Philadelphia.

Major Contributions for Education
He believed in the importance of education. He educated people through conversations and his writings. He believed in the method of student-led experimentation. He believed students would be able to learn more if they were more hands on and got to experience the curriculum physically. He implemented this philosophy into schools and universities.

Personal Life
Benjamin Franklin is a Founding Father and has had many roles in history. From scientist to politician. His father was a candlemaker who gave Franklin about 15 siblings. He learned to read at an early age and stopped attending school to help his father work at age 10.
