Lucy was a third grader at East Pointe Elementary School. She was waiting on the edge of her seat until 1:00 when she would get to go outside and play with her friends at recess. As she was waiting, an announcement came across the loudspeaker stating that all children would be sent home immediately and busses would be there shortly. Lucy was baffled at this announcement. All of the students were confused and asking Mrs. Sullivan to explain what was happening. Mrs. Sullivan said that the school was sending them home for their own safety and that their parents could explain the details.
After packing up, Lucy met her best friends Chloe and Bailey in the hallway on the way to their bus. She asked them if they knew anything else, but they did not. On the bus, kids were not at all worried, but were rowdy and excited about getting home early.

Lucy walked in the door to find her mother in the kitchen waiting on her. She asked if Lucy wanted to go to the store because they needed toilet paper and some other things. She of course said yes and hopped in the car. On the way there, her mother explained that there was a virus that was very contagious, which is why the students were all sent home. Lucy was still a little confused, but she was just happy that she got to go home. They arrived at the store and before getting out of the car, Lucy’s mother handed her a mask. “What is this?” Lucy asked. “It’s a mask that we have to wear so that we don’t spread the virus.”
Inside the store, Lucy was aggravated that her breathing inside of her mask caused her glasses to become foggy. “Mom, I can’t wear this because I can’t see!” she exclaimed. “We have to wear it for our safety and others around us.” Lucy was still annoyed.
As they rounded the corner to the toilet paper aisle, Lucy’s mother was shocked to see that the shelves were bare! She thought, “Why would everyone be buying toilet paper?” She even asked a store worker to check in the back, but they had no luck. They went ahead and purchased the other things they needed and then returned home.
