One Christmas Eve, Lillie Jones was finishing up her homework after a long school day. Math. Ugh! she thought. She was relieved when her father called her in to the kitchen for dinner. "Can't do your homework on an empty stomach." Dad said jokingly. Everyone giggled.

"Can we please have a story tonight, Grandma?" asked Lillie. “Yes! We can’t go to bed without a story!” said little Zach, Lillie’s younger brother, who had been in the room long enough to hear the word, "story" and was not going to bed without one.
"Oh, alright," said Grandma. "Since Christmas is tomorrow, I have just the story."
Grandma began. "It was Christmas time in Unity, a town that got its name because everyone got along there. It was a wonderful place inhabited by fairies and kind people of all shapes and sizes. The people there loved Christmas. Everyone was happy."

"One Christmas Eve, a fairy named Matilda turned against Unity due to her unbridled jealousy of how beautiful the other fairies were: Encapsulating Unity under a spell where no one aged and no one could get out."

"Aww man, what a terrible ending! How would someone save Unity?" exclaimed Lillie. "Good question," started Grandma. "Legend has it, that there is a small jewel called the Christmas Gem. Every Christmas day, a portal opens and if someone can find the jewel, hold it tightly in their hand, and say 'Take me to Unity', they will be transported there for one whole day. Upon arrival, the curse will be broken. However, no one knows where the gem is, or if it even exists!" Grandma added. "Wow!" awed Zach. "We will find it!" announced Lillie. "Not tonight, honey," said her mom entering the room. "You need to get to sleep."

Coins & Jewels

Lillie woke and she just couldn’t stop thinking about the gem. She asked her mom to take her to the local toy store where she held each jewel she found saying, "Take me to Unity," in hopes of finding the magical gem. To her disappointment, none of them worked.

When she went home, Lillie's mother asked her to go to the basement and grab some wrapping paper for a last-minute Christmas present. While she was down there, she decided to poke around for anything she may have overlooked that could be connected to the hidden gem. Sure enough, she found a strange wooden box. One she had never seen before. She opened it, revealing the most beautiful jewel she had seen in her life.
She carefully picked up the gem, held it tightly and whispered: "Take me to Unity" - and with that...Lillie vanished.

Lillie found herself spinning through a whirlwind of beautiful blue shades and hues. Part of her mind was thinking that this experience was spectacular while the other half felt very scared!

She appeared on a snow-covered path that lead to a beautiful town full of people that came in every shape and size--just like Grandma had said. Lillie went up to a villager and said: "Can you take me to the Queen?" She was directed to a ginormous palace.

"Who are you?" the Queen asked, suspiciously.
"I am Lillie. I got here from the Christmas Gem. Your curse should be broken..."
"The Christmas Gem? Do you have it with you?"
Lillie nodded.

The Queen directed Lillie outside. "Look at the still-cursed lavender sky. If the spell had been broken, the sky would be clear blue you see."
Lillie was confused. "But I don’t understand. When I got here, I thought the curse would be broken!" The Queen chuckled. "I’m surprised you didn’t know, young one. For the spell to be broken, you need to deliver it to the Infinity Palace. The Infinity Palace is a place about an hour away if you traveled by foot. The Ruler lives there. You give her the gem, and the curse will be broken."

"Who is the Ruler?'' Lillie asked.
''She is the ruler of this land.''
''But I thought you were the ruler. You are the Queen!''
''I am the Queen of Unity, not of this whole land. The only reason Unity is under the curse is because another town from this land was cursed.''
''Wow. Grandma never said anything about this stuff!''

Lillie went on her way, with a magical compass and some snacks given to her by the Queen. Brr! It's cold out here! She thought. Once she delivered the gem, she would be free to go home!
