If you were to ask people what their definition of a hero was, you would get a lot of different answers. To me a hero is someone who influences you with their actions and beliefs. I have a lot of good influences in my life but for this essay I am going to be talking about my dad.

   My dad is always there for me and is a great role model. He is very hard working, very prepared, selfless, and caring.

    Throughout my whole life my dad has always tried his hardest no matter what he is doing. To me this is a huge part of him being my hero. Hard work is a very helpful trait to have in life. I sometimes do not work as hard if I do not find it very fun. I strive to get better at this, and my dad is a great example to get me to be a very hard worker. When I first started playing hockey one thing that my dad would always say to me was that, “the only failure is the failure to try”.

     To me this is an outstanding way to live your life. It means that no matter what you are doing, if you tried your hardest you have gained something even if you ended up not reaching your goal. An example of my dad being very hard working is when ever we build projects. He always works super hard to find the most secure and best-looking design. He is also very determined and won’t quit until he gets the outcome he desired.    

     My dad is also very prepared. My dad always puts planning into things that we do. My dad will always alert us of events that are coming up. My dad is also very prepared for situations that could happen everyday. My dad has a great understanding of basic life skills and is never worried if he gets into a predicament. My dad is also pushing these basic life skills onto me and my brother. When ever there is a chance to repair or 

fix something around the house he asks us to help him so we can learn and use the skills in the future. Some basic skills that he has already taught me are basic house care, washing a car, and using power tools. Now when I go out into the world I will not panic if I get into a situation. The fact that he is helping me in the future by teaching me important skills, is a huge part in why he’s my hero.

    A third reason why my dad is my hero is because he is very selfless. My dad gives up a lot of his time so he can be with me and my brother. Every Wednesday he takes me and my brother out to dinner. He takes time off of work which is very important to him, to spend time with us when he gets a chance. He also takes time off from work on the weekend so that we can see each other.
