HOW THE DOLPHIN GOT THE WHITE ON ITS BELLY

        A long, long time ago at the beach, Devin and her dolphin family were talking to 

each other. They were discussing how they did not like their plain gray skin color.   They 

had been gray for so long that it had become boring. One day Devin, went onto dry sand 

to sun bathe.   Then the tide went out and Devin got stuck in the sticky sand.    Devin the 

dolphin wiggled so she would not die. A few hours passed and Devin parents were afraid 

because they could not find their daughter.   Her parents were crying and said Devin 

might be dead and then started sobbing. Devin the dolphin was still stuck on the dry 

sand.   In the middle of the night a girl named Ellie, who rescued animals on the sand with 

her sisters Ella and Stella, came to Devin’s rescue. They were walking with flashlights 

around the beach to look for stranded animals. On the beach they saw Devin. They 

released her back into the sea and Devin swam back home.    When Devin got back home 

her family hugged and kissed her.   In the corner of Devin’s mother’s eye, she saw white 

on Devin’s belly. Her mother asked, “How did you get the white on your   belly?” said  

Devin. I know, when I was struggling in the sand, I got the white   sand on my belly and it 

must have stuck! I will show you how. Devin the dolphin showed her family how to 

scrape their bellies on the sand. She looked up and noticed that all her family had white 

bellies.   Luckily, the tide was in and all the dolphins managed to swim away. That is how 

the dolphin got the white on its belly. 

How the Snake Came to Be

Once when people had just come to earth they could only find two species of 

animals, the Lizard and the Eagle. Then one day a man thought he saw an 

animal that was not a Lizard or an Eagle.   But when he picked it up,   it was a 

long piece of shiny metal. Other people thought they were finding new species of 

animals and it was only metal.Then one day a Lizard was sunning himself on a 

warm sunny rock. When all of a sudden he heard a loud SHRIEK. He looked up 

just in time to see a large Eagle swooping down. It took his legs and then Eagle 

flew away.   The Lizard was very sad and thought he’d be stuck there for the rest 

of his life. Then out of the middle of nowhere an idea popped into his head.   He 

would slither around! All of a sudden the lizard transformed into a snake!   The 

snake started growing huge fangs and lots and lots of venom. All of a sudden a 

person named Viggo found the snake. The man tried picking him up, but   the 

snake bit him. He screamed and started to   bleed. He died very soon from 

bleeding too much and from having too much venom. Then the whole country 

heard about this attack and there was a big hunt by the police.   They finally 

found him.   The snake bit all of them and they got very sick and almost died and 

they went to the hospital.   After weeks of hurting people, the snake got tired.  

Then a scientist picked him up and brought him to where he was keeping a 

female snake.   The two snakes met and fell in love.   They got married and had a 

baby. That is how the snake came to be.

How Shadow Mountain Got Its Name

      One day in the 1900’s a man named Shadow went to see his friend name 

Mountain. He made it to Mountain’s house, knocked on the door   and Mountain 

came to the door. He said,   “I have not seen you in a while,” Shadow said, “ I 

need to talk to you”. They   went in the house   and Shadow said, “ We should go 

exploring.” “ok,” said Mountain. “ I love that idea.”   Well they planned where 

they were going to go but it was getting dark.   We should stay at my house for 

the night. “Ok,” Shadow said. So they went to bed. When they were sleeping 

something came and stole the papers that there   plans were on. Shadow and 

Mountain heard the door shut. They ran to where the papers used to be and 

they were not there in the morning.Shadow said, “ I think I know the way we 

were going to go. Mountain said, “I trust you.” So they started walking and 

came to a fork and took the wrong path and went up the wrong mountain and 

Mountain got mad at Shadow and Shadow said, “While we are up here I am 

going to   tell   you I do not    think    this    mountain has been found ever before. 

Let’s name it.”   “Ok,” said   Shadow, “ How   about   Aspen MOUNTAIN?” “No!!!!! 

You   are not thinking it   through.That’s already a mountain’s   name.” “Ok,   how 

about you just pick a name?” Shadow replied, “How about Shadow Mountain?”.   

Mountain said, “I like that name!”   That is how Shadow Mountain got its name!!                                                    

 How The Sun Came Into The Sky

             Many, many years ago lots of people lived in India. It was AMAZINGLY 

hot!!! You won't even believe this but sometimes people would die!!!! And do you 

know why it was so hot? It was so hot because the sun wasn't up in the sky! Instead 

it was lying FLAT on the ground!! The people in India wanted to do something about 

it. So the six smartest people got together to talk. After a while they had a 

suggestion.They were going to take long metal sticks and push the sun up! They 

announced it to everyone. Some people thought it was a   fabulous   idea but others 

disagreed! Now that made the six smartest people angry!! They said, “ WE ARE THE 

SMARTEST PEOPLE AND YOU ARE NOT,SO YOU DO EXACTLY WHAT WE SAY!! OR 

ELSE!!!!!!!!!!!” 

Now that made the people scared. They didn't know what “or else” was supposed to 

mean but they sure didn't like the sound of it! So they went along with it anyways. 

The next day everybody in India got long metal sticks and went all along the edges 

of the sun. When everyone was ready the six smartest people said, “HOWW PUSH, 

HOWW PUSH, HOWW PUSH!!”   And on the last HOWW PUSH! everyone pushed as 

hard as they could!! After about two months everyone gave up. But then the few 

people who disagreed said, “We have a suggestion!”   Everyone looked up and was 

silent!! They said, “Someone would go put magnets all over the sun, then people 

would go into space and put magnets all around the galaxy. And because there was 

no gravity the magnets would stay!!”   Everyday for six years the sun would go a little 

bit higher. The six men apologized for what they said. The few people forgave them 

and everyone was happy!!

  Moral: Try to find a solution everyone agrees with.

Leopard Spots

               In the 1600's at dawn, a yellow leopard was 

running away from hunters. He did not know where he was going. 

He was heading towards a village. When he was in the village, 

there was a painter. Kaasssppllaashhhh! The leopard was painted 

completely black by the painter! He asked the painter if he could 

be yellow again. The painter said, “If I change you back to yellow, 

you must not ever come again.” “Deal!” said the leopard. But  

instead of painting him all yellow, the painter splashed yellow on 

him and he still had black spots.   "Hmmm, I kind of like this 

spotted look, thought the leopard.

And that's   how the leopard got his spots!!

The Legend of the Water Snake

                 A long time ago, in the time of dinosaurs, Amhi the Banded 

Krait Snake wanted to live in the water like the fish. But there was a 

huge problem with this. She lived on dry land! “I wish I could live in 

the water, but I can’t,”, said Amhi. So Amhi went   to Zemus, God of 

the Water. She asked him to make her a water snake, but he said, 

“Only if you bring me The Great Water Serpent, “and he has to be 

dead!” So Amhi went home to her den, and said “Aha”! Tomorrow I 

will use my fangs to kill The Great Water Serpent.” The next day Amhi 

got up at one `o'clock in the morning, and set off to kill The Great  

Water Serpent. At two o'clock in the morning she saw The Great 

Water Serpent sleeping soundly on a rock. Amhi slithered up to it and 

sank her fangs into it and killed it. Amhi brought it to Zemus and he 

made her a water snake. And to this day Amhi still lives in the sea.

How Singswang the Scorpion   Got   his   Stinger

          Once there was a desert with lots of   animals. Suddenly a guy 

went racing by on a motorcycle, and he dropped a white thing that 

smelled like smoke. Everybody was scared of it so they didn’t touch 

it. At   night a scorpion   ran around saying, Fire! Fire!”   Then 

everybody was saying, “Fire!fire!” Next a little scorpion called 

Singswang told everybody to dig to find water.So everybody did. Then 

everybody got tired and fell asleep. If everybody fell asleep they 

would die. Singswang was smart. He was digging   until he hit metal. 

Right when he was going to hit it again, a fire ball hit him and 

dropped the shovel.   It hit the medal and made it crack .Then one 

minute later it exploded and saved the day . Unfortunately,   the fire 

made Singswang’s tail go up straight and he had fire on it. If anybody 

touched it, it would burn them and that’s how singswang got his 

stinger.

Why Dolphins Eat Fish

In the ocean, ten million years ago, there were way too many fish in 

the sea and   no one could see. The sea creatures tried to solve the 

problem but no one knew what to do at all. One day Lumer went 

snorkeling and couldn’t see. So he did some research and found out 

that dolphins were going to die of hunger.The dolphins ate plants but 

the fish started eating all the plants. So there were none left for the 

dolphins. The next day he went to the dolphins and said,” Do you want 

to eat fish and stay alive?” They all said, ”Yes”. Then he got the fish 

and said, “Do you want to be eaten by dolphins?” They replied with a 

loud, “Yes!” Then the dolphins started to eat fish and the amount of 

fish went down by a lot. That is why dolphins eat fish!

The Polar Bears Problem

One day it was freezing in Antarctica and all the polar bears were 

huddled up in a pile. One Polar Bear was greedy because he had two 

homes instead of one. One home was in the water, one was on land. 

All the other   polar bears were on the land and he was on both.   One 

day a little girl came over to the polar bear and said, “Why are you so 

greedy?”   The polar bear thought for a second and wondered why he 

was so greedy. The polar bear went to Poseidon and asked him to 

push him out of the water. His plan was to go to the middle of the sea 

and wait for Poseidon   to push him out of the water. He was so bored. 

All of a sudden, the sea bottom moved and out of the blue, a tsunami 

came. He flew into the air and hit the ice. All the polar bears were 

shocked. The polar bear never went into the water again and was 

never greedy again.

How the Chameleons Got Their   Color

          A   long time ago in the deepest part of the jungle where the 

water drips on big soft leaves,   there was a chameleon that was black 

and white. He really wanted to be colorful. So he thought and thought 

and though,t but he still could not think of anything. Then, right then 

and there he thought of something. He should go to the waterfall 

because there was a Master there but not any Master,   a Grand 

Master. This master   could do anything. The chameleon explained how 

he really wanted to be colorful. The Grand Master said, “I have to earn 

your trust.” Go to the Mountain of Wealth and get me some water and 

be careful.”   So the chameleon walked for days and days. Then one 

day he got to the top. But he had to swing over because there was a 

fire pit. The chameleon saw a vine and swung over, but fell   and got 

burnt.   His skin melted and he saw his real skin. He quickly grabbed 

the water and ran down as fast as he could go. He thanked the 

GrandMaster and was the happiest animal alive. This is how 

chameleons got their color.

How the Sun and the Moon Got into the Sky

          A Long long time ago the sun and the moon were on 

the ground. People would bump into the moon and burn 

themselves on the sun.The people grew very mad at the sun 

and the moon . So they tried to get the sun and the moon in 

the sky. They didn’t want to touch the sun because   it was too 

hot. One day the sun left the ground   and floated into the sky. 

They thought the moon would be easy but it was not easy the 

moon was   too big and heavy for the people . One day the 

moon said, “I'm tired of being pushed around,”   so he drank a 

magic potion and floated into the sky. That is how the sun and 

the moon got into the sky.  

How the Turtle got its Stripes on its Shell

          One time in the north a long time ago it was winter and 

there was a turtle who was very cold. The turtle decided to go 

South with a bird. When the turtle asked a bird if he could go 

South with him the bird said,   “yes”. When they were going 

South the turtle and the bird started to have a boring 

conversation.   He was so bored he fell asleep. He hit the 

ground so he got cracks on his shell and from then on turtles 

have always   had cracks on their shell but we call them 

stripes.
