There was once a boy named Herman. He lived on a farm with his Uncle Joe and his Aunt Julie. He had many chores: wash the pig, shovel horse manure, and feed all the animals. As the narrator, I must tell you this is only a quarter of his chores. Herman felt like it was not fair that his uncle and aunt had no chores.

He was feeding the pig when his aunt yelled “It's time for dinner!” He walked slowly to the house.

It's time for dinner!
His Aunt said, “What took you so long?” He shrugged without answering and began to slowly eat his food.

What took you so long?
After finishing only half, he got up and slowly started up the stairs for bed. As he climbed, his Uncle barged in and rudely asked “Why isn’t my dinner ready?” To Hermans Aunt.

Why isn’t my dinner ready?
Herman thought to himself, “At least tomorrow is my 10th birthday.”

The next morning, Herman awoke and ran downstairs to start his chores. There was no greeting from his aunt or uncle.

His aunt yelled “lunchtime!” As he ran, he noticed a shiny green crystal in the field.

Lunchtime!

His Aunt asked, “What is that green thing?” Herman answered, “That ‘green thing’ is a crystal.” “Maybe it’s a wishing crystal! Try it!” Aunt Julie Suggested. “Okay, here goes nothing,” he said. In his mind, he wished: “I wish I was in a rich family!” Nothing happened. His Uncle yelled, “Get back to your chores!”

Herman picked up the crystal and ran to get back to his chores. When he was away from his mean Uncle’s eyes, he looked at the crystal. All of a sudden, a big green portal came out of nowhere. Looking at his Aunt and Uncle, Herman wondered if he should tell them what he was seeing. After some thought, he didn’t tell them and walked through the glowing portal.

He was astonished to see a big fantasy world with fairies, Dragons, Giants, Goblins, Mermaids, Orcs, Trolls, etc. He walked around, trying to see everything. A little fairy, named Tiny, said “It’s a human it’s a human!” in his tiny voice. Then, he told the village.
It's a human! It's a human!

The guards then played their version of rock, paper, scissors called “orcs, dragons, mermaids” to determine which lucky winner could deliver the message to the king with the voice portal.

The winning guard went to the secret portal room and spoke into the portal “It’s a human, your Highness!” “That can’t be. They’ve been extinct for thousands of years” The king replied, laughing. The guard fearfully laughed with the king. Still laughing, the king said, “If this is true, give the human the summons letter.”

The guard ran from the portal room with the summons and said, “You’ve been summoned by the king.” Herman took the letter and began to read...

You’ve been summoned by the king.

Dear Human,
I am the king of fairy tale land. I live very far away. 29 guards will ride with you on a dragon to meet me. This will be a 12-night journey. This is why you will be stopping each night to stay someplace. Once I’ve seen you for myself, you will have free rein to come and go as you wish in my kingdom.
