Mathematics

The Maya developed the concept of zero and are known to be one of the most mathematically advanced ancient civilizations on earth. They also assembled a complex number system that consists of dots, lines, and unique shapes.

Astronomy

The Maya concocted a surprisingly accurate calendar based on the movements of the sun, moon, and stars. They did this by observing everything in the sky for a long period of time. 

Architecture

The Maya civilization left behind giant pyramids that indicate the advancement of the early culture. It shows their ability to build complex structures without the help of machines. It is truly impressive when you think about the time and effort it must have taken to build without proper construction.

Engineering

The Maya believed that beauty is also pain, so their culture engineered some devices to customize the body in order to look more "beautiful". These customizations include embedding stones in teeth, producing scars on skin, and stretching the length of the human skull. The Maya invented a device that allowed for cranial deformation.
