My Dear Students,                            June 2021

    This has been a year like no other!  I said to you at the beginning of year, “We are making history!  We are the first EVER virtual school, the first EVER virtual class, in the history of mankind.”  We were privileged  to be a part of this moment in history.  It will be a story to tell your children, your grand-children and your great- grandchildren someday.  They will be talking about this school year for decades, and decades to come.  I feel extremely blessed to have been your teacher this year, 2020-2021.  Whether you have been with me all year, since November or since March you are important to me.  I consider myself very fortunate to have spent this year with you on screen, and at the beginning I wasn’t certain if I would feel as close to my students if they weren’t face-to-face with me in a classroom.  You all proved that God’s power can bring us close, no matter the circumstances.  I feel connected to you in a way that I have never felt before, maybe because we were all going through this first-time experience together, but certainly because you are 

such great kids. Thank-you for sticking with me all year, laughing at my jokes, keeping my spirits high, and making me excited and grateful to be opening up my laptop every weekday this year to hear the morning chatter and the welcoming 

sounds of students saying, 

“LOGGED ON!”

The God of Humans-Jacob G

Once upon a time there lived a boy named Jack. Jack lived in a small village and his nickname was “the boy of thieves”. Jack was a small boy. He was 10 years old and was poor, that's why he stole. 

One day he was walking around when he saw a holy light gleaming in the filthy streets. From it came Hermes, the messenger of the gods. Jack stared in disbelief and Hermes said, “Jack you have been chosen to be a god.  All you have to do is slay Poseidon. He has gone rogue. Here, this will help you on your voyage.” Jack was confused. He asked, “How will this help, and what god would I be?”  That glove I gave you has one of Medusa's eyes in it so when you touch someone with it they will rapidly turn to stone and you will be the god of humans. 

With that Jack went on his journey to find Poseidon.  In his journeys he found many monsters. He made quick work of every monster by turning them to stone then he found Poseidon and turned him into stone. 

Jack lived happily ever after and he became the best choice for the god of humans.

Damian Lillard

Damian Lillard is an American professional basketball player. He was born on July 15, 1990 in Oakland, California to Gina and Houston Lillard. He has an older brother named Houston Jr. He also has an older sister named Gina Jr. His two favourite hobbies as a kid were basketball (of course) and skating.

 He spent his first two years of high school in St Joseph Notre Dame high school.. After his second year, he thought he wasn’t getting enough minutes on the court, so he changed high schools to Oakland High School, where he developed his deadly step back and amazing jump shot. He was a 2 star recruit and 48th best point guard to ESPN, and was not heavily recruited. He did get one scholarship, and that was to Weber State University in the Big Sky Conference in Ogden, Utah. While at this university, Damian completed a degree in professional sales. Instead of being a salesman, though, he decided to follow his dream of being a professional basketball player. And it delivered! 

He won the Big Sky player of the year award in his first season! But sadly, the first game of his sophomore season he got injured, and couldn’t play for the rest of the season in his Junior year, he won the Big Sky Player Of The Year again, and therefore became the 4th person in history to accomplish that feat twice. He was widely regarded as the greatest point guard prospect of that year, and therefore decided to skip his senior season and declare for the 2012 NBA draft. He was the 6th pick by the Portland Trail Blazers behind greats like Anthony Davis and Bradley Beal. At the end of the season, he finished with 19 points per game and was the fourth NBA player in history to win the Rookie Of The Year award without any one of the voters voting against him. Sadly, they were the eleventh seed and didn’t make it to the playoffs. His team drafted a really good player, and he finally helped Damian Lillard and would for the next 8 years, at the tenth overall pick, CJ Mccollum.     

At the end of the next season, he, along with fellow Blazer Lamarcus Aldridge, made the all NBA third team, which basically means a starting lineup of 5 for each team. Portland lost to the Spurs 4-1 in the 2nd round of the playoffs,, sadly. They didn’t make any major changes in the offseason because they felt like they wanted to keep the same roster and make another run. In the 2014-15 season, the Portland Trail Blazers decided to start Damian Lillard all 82 games of the season, and make him the team captain. In the playoffs, the Trail Blazers lost to the Memphis Grizzlies. In the offseason, Damian signed a 5 year, $102,000,000 extension, one of the biggest contracts at the time. He also started a music career, coming out with the song “Bigger Than Us”.  He finally missed his first game in his entire career with plantar fasciitis, and missed 6 more afterwards. Sadly, they lost to the defending champs Golden State in 5 games in the playoffs. Damian did win the Magic Johnson award for basketball excellence the next  season, but repeated the exact same feat in that year ’s playoffs. 

In the next season, Damian stepped up. He made it 4th in MVP honors, and made it to the All-NBA first team, the third in franchise history. Damian kept on breaking record after record, like he always does, and it led this team to the third seed, the second highest ever. They beat the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round, and Denver in the second round, to make it the third longest they have ever had: the Western Conference Finals. But, Damian suffered an injury in game 1, and Portland got swept. In 2019, Damian got injured again so he couldn’t make it in the all star game. But, as the pandemic went on, people wondered if “Dame Time” was over. But, it wasn’t. Damian won MVP when they went into Orlando, but Portland lost to the Lakers in the first round. Damian is an inspiration to me, and a bunch of fans everywhere. He is my favourite sports athlete in the world, because he has had a lot of ups and downs, and he has overcome them every time. . I know he will continue to be the amazing superstar he is for the foreseeable future.

Stars

Oh, sweet beautiful stars in the night, 

I love how you shine and glow just right, 

I really wish you could stay there, 

above the clouds and in the air, 

but until you are a bright, 

I will just have to wait at night. 

Birds

I am a bird, 

I like to sit on power lines 

and do my daily dues,

 when it turns cold I go to the south 

to go find some shelter,

 but when it's hot 

I go back to my spot 

to just sit and wait again.

The Tree

I looked up in a tree once and then I saw it, there was a cat up there in the air and I didn’t know how to get it down. I looked around and here’s what I found it looked like a big stick, I thought ¨no that won’t work¨ 

so I took out my phone and turned it on but I guess it didn’t work, my phone was dead so I went to another house, I knocked on the door and out someone came and I said I needed the phone, he let me in and I called 911 and they said they were postponed, i said at what time will you be available they said 9 past 10, it was 8:00 so i thought “hey i’ll get him myself”, so i went back and started to climb the tree, i got up and the cat was scared so it hissed and meowed, i said it’s okay while he swised and suede and i finally picked him up, i looked down then i frowned  because i was so high up, i jumped down so he was finally found and the went to live with me.

Mason-The Strange Plant

It was the first day of summer for Robert Miller and he finally did it!  He escaped his school but now since it was summer he was going to need to do something, but what. Then he smelled it. Was that his mom’s cooking?  He had not smelled his mother’s cooking since Christmas when she cooked dinner for the family.  Robert ran down his stairs to get the food before the rest of the family took it. He was rushing down the stairs when he slipped then tumbled down the stairs.  What a noise he made! After a few seconds he got back up. Then he heard the heavy footsteps of his father coming to see what the noise was but when he saw Robert he knew he had fallen.  He helped him to his feet and then Robert went to see his mother in the kitchen.  She was cooking breakfast but it wasn't done so Robert went outside to look for his friends. 

He left his house and went to his friend James’ house.  Now James was a smart kid, and I mean really smart! James could do any math question in seconds but he didn't have the best body from how skinny he was so When Robert got to James' house he wasn’t home.  Maybe James was at Alex's house, so Robert started to run to Alex's house.  Now Alex was a nice person he’d never want fighting he’d never try to break the rules and over all he was amazing at talking.  I mean he could talk all day. When Robert was almost there he tripped on his shoelace.  That was the second fall he’d had in one day. He arrived at Alex's house to find no one home.  Robert found it odd how he'd found no one yet. So he went to his friend Mike’s house.  Mike was like the leader of their little group. He was a natural leader because when Mike said something it motivated people. Finally Robert arrived at Mike’s house and went to the backyard only to find Mike working in the garden looking at something with James and Alex.

It was a big odd looking plant with what looked like a mouth. Robert was curious and asked what the plant was so Mike said he didn't know cause it just showed up yesterday.  Yesterday his mom bought seeds from some old guy and she planted them and then this just appeared. Suddenly the plant began to go crazy!  It just jumped out of the ground, it used its roots as legs and it started to run toward the house. It completely destroyed Mike’s roof. That made the house fall down like a house of cards then the plant monster started running making a screeching sound.  Alex, James and Mike’s parents were still out so they'd be fine. Then Robert realized his house could be destroyed and his parents would be crushed.

Then it happened!  The plant monster smelled it. Robert’s mom’s cooking. oh no!  All the boys started to run to Robert’s house then Robert fell down for the third time that day but he immediately got back up.  This caused the others to stop running to look behind them. When the monster made it to Robert’s house, it destroyed everything. Was Robert too late to save everyone? He thought then he heard a scream it was of his mother so Robert ran faster than he’d ever ran before.  The monster fell over from the scream and that was when James realised loud noises made the monster weak. James went to his house quickly to grab a mega phone then James gave it to Alex to scream into. With one shriek, the monster exploded.  Everyone was safe because James used his head to solve the problem.

The Brain: A Computable Organ-Renee

Mind Uploading sounds complicated.  However, with the breathtaking explosion of innovation and progress, for the first time, the concept of leaving our flesh piles (bodies) behind and uploading our minds into a digital utopia seems possible. Even like the logical next step on our evolutionary ladder. But is it possible to upload your mind into a computer? Well, it’s complicated.

utopia: an imagined place or state of things in which everything is perfect.

evolutionary: relating to or denoting the process by which different kinds of living organisms are believed to have developed from earlier forms.

denoting: be a sign of; indicate.

Upload what exactly? Mind is one of those words that can be really hard to define. It’s thought to be the collective abilities of your consciousness and intelligence, the thing that lets you imagine, recognize, and dream. Mind uploading is the hypothetical concept of making a copy of this inner world, and transferring it into a computer to simulate your consciousness. But even defining the premise gets really hard, really fast.

hypothetical: of, based on, or serving as a hypothesis.

premise: a previous statement or proposition from which another is inferred or follows as a conclusion.

The possibility of mind uploading is based on three assumptions. 

Assumption One: Physicalism

Your mind is in your brain’s structure, arrangement, and biochemistry. The idea that everything about the mind can be found in the brain is called Physicalism and it keeps our discussion within the domain of natural law.

biochemistry: the branch of science concerned with the chemical and physicochemical processes and substances that occur within living organisms.

physicochemical: relating to physics and chemistry or to physical chemistry.

Physicalism: the doctrine that the real world consists simply of the physical world.

doctrine: a belief or set of beliefs held and taught by a Church, political party, or other group.

Assumption Two: Scanability

At some point, we will understand the brain well enough and possess the technology to simulate all of its aspects to make a digital mind copy.

Assumption Three: Computability

Computer software can host your mind, which means the mind is computable. There is no physical property in the brain including consciousness that cannot be simulated accurately, even if it requires a lot of code.

All of these assumptions have been proposed and challenged by scientists and philosophers, and they remain the subject of passionate debate. With so many fundamental questions still unanswered, it’s hard to discuss the topic without annoying someone. Whatever your position, every discussion about mind upload has to begin with the brain.

There are eight planets in our solar system. Thare names are 

Mercury,Venus,Earth,Mars,Jupiter,Saturn,Uranus and Neptune.Mercury is the smallest 

planet,Mars is the 2nd smallest,Venus is the 3rd smallest,Earth is the 4th smallest,Neptune is 

the 4th largest planet,Uranus Is the 3rd largest,Saturn is the 2nd largest and Jupiter is the 

largest planet in our solar system.Earth is the only planet with known life on it.Jupiter has at 

at least 67 moons.Astronomers say there are 100 billion to 200 billion galaxies in the universe.

Our 

galaxy is called the milky way galaxy it is one of many.

Mars is a constant point of discussion

for space explorers around the world. There are more volcanoes on Venus than on any 

other planet in the solar system.

The Mystery of the ISS

The story begins on April 7th, 2023, 3 boys have been sent to space to look for the missing spacecraft ISS. Steven, Carson and Renee start to get ready, Renee then says “What if we don’t make it back?” Carson tells Renee “If we don’t make it back Emma will come and find us.” Renee then got calmer and continued to get ready. After the boys got ready they boarded the rocket ship. Emma then tells them in the rocket speaker “Renee, Steven and Carson please be safe and don’t fight about anything” After she said that the rocket went blast off. 

A couple of hours later they are in space and they are looking around for the ISS, Renee then shouts “THERE IT IS IN BETWEEN JUPITER AND SATURN!” Steven then talks on the mic and says “We found it” When they went closer to it they realized something or someone was in it, they went in and there were 3 aliens! But they didn’t attack but they were scared. Renee then talks to them in alien since he studied alien language. After that, the aliens helped them get the ISS back to earth where it belongs.

Years later the Aliens are now officially living on earth and are happy with the 3 boys. 

 Emma H-The Importance of  Friendship

Emma V is my best friend and she is amazing. She is nice to me and she is always talking about space. She loves space, she has pretty hair and eyes, and her favourite  colour is red. Emma, you just light up the room and you have the best smile! She has red hair and she has brown eyes. She has 4 dogs and loves animals.  She talks to me. Her favourite food is  hamburgers and her favourite thing to do is draw and colour. Emma is funny and she makes me laugh. 

Friends are the most important ingredient in this recipe called life. A best friend can be hard to find and I feel lucky to have found one. A friend is someone you can spend time with, someone  who can talk to you when you feel happy or sad, someone to play with, and someone who makes you laugh. A day spent with a friend is always a day well spent. My best friend‘s problems are my problems. My best friend and l can do anything or nothing and still have the best time. l miss my friend already and l love you friend.   

Why is Emma V my best friend? She makes me smile, she talks to me, she is always nice and kind to me, and she plays with me. When she looks at me, l smile. 

I read this on the internet. “Friends are like stars, you can’t always see them, but you know they are always there.”

Bassel-Kraken

 Once upon a time ages ago in the deep, deep ocean there was a kraken. 

 His name was Bill and he loved swimming it was all he did. 

 Bill lived in the midnight zone and it was very dark and scary. 

 It was ok with him because he had his mom and dad to comfort him.

One day Bill's parents said they had to go and get food and it would  take them a while. First he was okay with it, then he started to get nervous so he decided to set off and find something that he knew  would give a little light. His parents had told him stories about these  big rocks that looked like mountains and they contained a very hot liquid called lava and it was very bright. He knew he had to go west till he found them. On his trip he saw some big feet treading through the water. Then he recognized  who it was.

Little Jean he was a Bunion. Bill knew him because his parents would sometimes invite the Bunions over to eat whale. Bill went and touched Little Jean’s leg and then Little Jean saw him and was very excited to  see his friend. They talked and did their top secret hand shake then Bill asked if Little Jean would like to join him on his little journey and of course Little Jean said “yes”. Then they continued west after a while of fun, Little Jean’s mom Mrs Bunion came and told him he wasn't supposed to be out this far and he needed to  go home. Bill said bye to Little Jean and he continued  west. After 3 hours he finally made it to the mountains and Bill could feel the heat. He started to swing his big tentacles breaking holes in the top of the big mountains. He stood back and watched as they lit up the midnight zone. It made him feel very comfortable. Now every 6 months the midnight zone is lit up and it comforts all the sea creatures.  

13-Dayah

This stairwell has 13 steps

I look down the stairs feeling a form of regret

I feel a sense of unknown threat

The steps are creaky, the walls are blank

  But one thing is clear, that this isn’t a prank.

This is starting is to feel like a mistake

With every step that I have to take

The more I panic, the more I scream

The more I realise I’m trapped in a recurring dream 

 My heart is racing like never before

I don’t think there's 13 steps anymore..

Jacob B-Island Escapist

My pov: Hey my name's Jacob and I'll be bringing you through my adventure at an abandoned island; now let's get into it. 

Phew! I made it! Wait, nobodies here?  I wonder if I went to the wrong island. Maybe I should think about the directions. Ok, I thought about it. I've gone right… Wait, my boat! No, it's floating away! How do I get it back? 

Oh, there's a paper. I guess I'll read it. The paper says, hey you’ve come to my island my name’s Eric and there are five quests you may complete or no boat for you. You may begin the first quest. First, you collect some wood then burn it to complete the fire then burn this paper. Ok, it seems easy. First, I’ll gather some wood. Ok now I need to burn it but I don't have a source of fire. Oh there's a match but I gotta be very careful. (the fire ignites) Ok, I’ve done it now to put the paper in there. Ok, it's done now and there's another paper I'll read.

(Quest two) Ok, I saw you burn the paper. Now go to the fort in front of you and collect the food, then make a shelter for the night and because I know you can't sleep without warmth I gave you a sleeping bag. Good luck. Looks like I'm headed there. Now I’ll build a roof for this and there's a big piece of wood that I'll use it. That was heavy alright now I can sleep. I think it's morning oh yes it is I’ll head out. 

(Quest three) Now you must search for me and I’ll help you complete the rest of the Quests then you’ll have your boat back and you’ll be able to go back home. Hmmm, I must search for him. I shall look for him in bushes and trees first. Hmmm nowhere to be seen. Hey! There's a building over there. I'll look there. Oh hey! There you are. Hey, you’ve found me. Let go and do the rest of the quests but I’m telling you once only hints. Ok, let me read.

(Quest four) Now you must hike up the main mountain when you come here. There will be a rock you will search for that will have a picture engraved on it and here is a map now you must search so get to it. Ok, Eric let’s go to the mountain. Ok by the way, what's your name? Oh, it's Jacob. oh ok well, let's go. Ok, Eric looks like we're here. Yes indeed we are here you have the map? Yes, I do. And we are at the rock. The picture looks like we have to go to another rock. Let me read the paper. 

(Quest five) go to the next rock to retrieve where I've parked your boat. Ok Eric, look for more rocks. Ok well, let’s move to the left side you're right side. Alright, I'll start looking. Oh, it's here and the boat is right there. I see it ok I’m going to run to it. No Jacob, don't! Phew!! I'm here ok I gotta get out of here. Jacob, get back here. Now go away finally. Haha, bye Eric. 

Stavy-The Computer's Point of View

Dear Owner, I think known as shish kabob 

It’s me, your Chromebook, the one you're constantly on. First of all, I have a name you know it's not just ‘’computer’’. I am satisfied that you like to use me but I am overdue for A break!! Sometimes I want some time to do my own thing like dusting off my keyboard and giving it a pedicure, but you always working hard on me gives me a massive computer ache.

Let me tell you a little about myself: My name is Doctor Acer. I love resting and I exaggerate a lot. My favorite object to search up is rainbow cars and my favorite food to look at is chicken wings. I also love emoji's and the language Spanish. I hate it when you search for a calculator to do division. It's so impenetrable, and you're practically making me do your homework. My hero is Captain shish kabob for short, his name is Baldy. I love Dora, especially watching Dora T.V. shows.

My complaints: I NEED A BREAK MAN! Second, Try charging me up fully before you use me. Third, quit blasting music. It's hurting my speakers. 

Stuff I don't like: Homework, the water, and running my battery all day! 

Stuff I do like: listening to your teacher, taking a break, and broccoli.

Just like a huge beast, is the white werewolf.

Gently it goes - the minor, the minuscule, the immature.

Bird is a wild feeling.

The wild feeling is a bird.

A zombie, however hard it tries,

will always be terrifying.

The summer is bright 

The temperature feels warm 

Flowers scent the air 

The spring is rainy to make the flowers grow 

and brings all the animals out from the snow.

In summer it is hot and the sun spreads its light 

to make the water temperature just right.

In autumn the cool wind blows colourful leaves to the ground 

while the animals search and store up food they found.

In winter the chill from the snow likes to bite 

and days become shorter and turn quicker to night.  

There once was a cat and a rat 

The cat and the rat always went splat  

The cat gave it his best

The Adventure-Max (a.k.a Spagett)

Once upon a time there was a person with his pet dog. Their names were Alex and the dog's name was Ethan.  On Saturday afternoon, they went downtown and out of the corner of their eye they saw a person with a black hoodie and a black sweater and he said “Pssst. Hey, you want a quest? ‘Cause I’ve got one for you.” 

Alex then replied, “Really? No way!” 

The mysterious figure then said, “Yeah. All you gotta do is find the dragon, take it, tame it, and then give it to me. Then I'll give you 2 million gold pieces. Oh yeah. And I forgot to say where it--” Alex inter over South at the whispering boba So then they set off on the journey. On the way, they make it to the Whispering Forest and then when they hear a crack in the trees they see a slime  Alex take the sword and fight the giant slime Alex yells to his dog to get back Ethan it's not safe right now I will fight them.

 Then another slime pops out of a tree and another one and another one and he fights awesomely while his dog runs away to get help but they're in the middle of the Whispering Forest and the dog says bark! Bark! I need to help him so then Ethan helps Alex and they successfully make it past the slimes in the Whispering Forest. They make it out South and they make it into the dungeon. Alex says there's the dungeon! They run to the dungeon door and they can't open. This must be a mystery to find it.

Alex says this must be a really good mystery cuz it's super hard to find it and then they searched to find the lever or a button. Ethan finds the button Ethan says bark! bark!. Alex comes running over and  Pushes the button eeeeeeeeeeeee the dungeon door starts to open and right as it opens they hear rrreee Ethan bark! bark! and Alex says it must be the Dragon They Start walking in and right as they step. one foot they hear a pppppprrrrrcccc it's booby-trapped Arrow start shooting out of the walls they start running and running and running and running. They finally make it to three doors Alex says one of these doors must lead to the Dragon.

  They choose the first and they step one foot in and start falling thay land and water and then they see a bunch of gold and then they see a big red dragon laying on the gold they throw meat out of their backpack at the dragon to try and tame it. the dragon likes them already they successfully tame the dragon thay say and then a bunch of slimes pop out of the top of the roof Ethan and Alex and the dragon start fighting them You hear crank Shields swords fighting skeletons fall from the sky with swords and shields the dragon breaks through the roof and flies back down and helps Alex and Ethan fly they give the dragon to the stranger came and they get 2 billion gold coins more than the guy I told them he would give them.

A Star Was Born-Grace 

Hi, my name is Frankie. I have hazel eyes, black and white dotted paws, a tail that looks like it was dipped in white paint at the end, floppy ears and a black coat. They call me a labra doodle but if you ask me I am all lab. This is the story of how I became the most understandable dog ever...literally. One day I was taking a stroll in the park with my people Ella and Grace. Now let me tell you a little bit about them.  Ella has long dark blond straight as a pin hair, glittering blue eyes and has freckles along her nose. She also gets stressed a lot. Grace has long wavy reddish-blond hair and darkening blue eyes. She’s also an old soul.

     So back to the story. We were taking a stroll in the park as it was a beautiful day. The sun was shining down on a tree that was thick and full of shamrock green leaves. Healthy massive green trees were dancing in the wind. The grass was so fresh, fragrant and green I wanted to lay it forever. So we were walking past this tree that looked different from all the others. This tree had these piney things, really thick bark-like stuff and it had all these weird smells. I wanted to go see it so I pulled really hard on the leash. I struggled a little bit because of this contraption thingy with the harness but I managed to smell it. It smelt sweet and sappy but also minty. When I looked up this gooey, sticky, sweet-smelling stuff drizzled down onto my snout. All the scents and this new odd substance Was so overwhelming that I fainted. I know crazy right all I want to do is have a fun stroll at the park but instead, I fainted. When I woke up I felt dizzy and I wasn't in the park anymore.

I was back at home. Mom was on the phone and she sounded distressed. My mom has long curly light blond hair and bright blue eyes. She is always there when you need a helping hand. When Mom got off the phone she came to me and gave me a very pleasing rubdown. Just as the girls came out I said “that's the spot “. Usually, they don't understand But this time my mom said 

“Did she just talk?” 

“uh Yeah,” Ella replied.

“Can you do anything else like magic or something?” Grace asked.

“I'm just a dog what do you expect,” I said “but if you considered being able to steal food off the counter at a super-fast speed as magic then yes”

“Well jumping up on the counter is considered as a bad dog, “Ella said

“Oh Okay then,” I replied. When word got out that I could talk, agents from all around the world started signing me up for all the latest and greatest movies with a dog being the star character. Let’s just say I’m a STAR.

Hi my name is Oliver and today my dream came alive! I got woken up by my mom, and she told me that I can finally join the deep sea team. I got up quickly and put on a fancy outfit and I was so excited, I ate breakfast. Just when I finished eating my eggs and bacon my mom handed me my jacket. I put on my jacket while rushing to my car. I drove to the deep sea team’s base for tryouts. When I got there I saw that I was the first person to arrive so I sat awkwardly on  a chair that was lined up with about eight others. Just then the leader of the deep sea team entered, his name was Lucas. Right after the rest of the team walked in, the team usually had five people in total but James retired and now there are only four that is why I have a chance of joining!
